Abortion, in the extreme

A look at the facts shows which party is more out of the mainstream

  • Follow Editorials

Democrats have tried to make abortion an issue in this election, and may in their convention this week.

They think the majority of Americans are pro-choice. They think they can paint Republicans as “extreme” for being pro-life. They apparently think Barack Obama is the very picture of moderation on abortion.

Hmm.

Of course, the truth is not quite as convenient as all that.

For one thing, in the latest Gallup poll on the issue, pro-lifers outnumber pro-choicers 50 to 41 percent. And 86 percent of Americans believe abortion should be illegal in the third
trimester.

In contrast, many Democrats not only support abortion as Anytime Birth Control – a Get Out of Responsibility Free Card – but partial-birth abortion as well. Partial-birth abortion is an especially late-term procedure in which the baby is delivered up to the head, whereupon the “doctor” proceeds to then suck the brains out of the baby.

So, exactly who is extreme on abortion again?

And guess what: President Obama is even more extreme in favoring abortion than that – despite the fact that most African-Americans oppose it and despite the fact that abortion takes a disproportionate toll on the black population: Nationwide, 35 percent of abortion victims are black, while in big cities the rate is much higher.

Even that isn’t enough for this president.

While a member of the Illinois state Senate, Mr. Obama actually opposed a bill that would protect babies who are accidentally born through botched abortions.

The so-called “Born-Alive Infant Protection Act” requires that medical care and sustenance be given to such babies, who are, after all, still human beings and continue to draw breath despite the abortionist’s best efforts.

A little-known horror story is that some such children have simply been left to die.

Obama claimed in 2008 that he opposed the Illinois bill, which mirrored a federal law, because it didn’t contain a clause expressly protecting the right to an abortion. That claim appears to be false, with reports indicating the Illinois bill, like the federal law, did contain such a clause.

Not even the most virulent pro-abortion organizations opposed the Born Alive bill. But Barack Obama did.

These are unpleasant facts, requiring the most disturbing descriptions, which we take no pleasure in addressing. But we didn’t bring it up. Abortion has been brought up by extremists in the Democratic Party, who believe abortion is every bit the sacrament that they always claimed men would declare it to be if they could get pregnant.

As for Mr. Obama, as a candidate he once promised that the first bill he would sign would be the Freedom of Choice Act, which, one report summarizes, would “remove all restrictions on abortion in state statutes, including restraints on late-term abortions and parental notification laws.”

He broke his promise, but the facts prove that if anyone is an extremist on abortion, Barack Obama is. His extreme position errs mightily on the side of abortion, not the defense of innocent life. And his position is light years out of mainstream America, the vast majority of which opposes his views.

Democrats are apparently prepared to walk over that innocent life to score what they think will be political points this week in Charlotte.

“Democrats are planning an abortion-palooza at their convention,” reports Lila Rose, president of the pro-life nonprofit Live Action, “featuring Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood, the United States’ largest abortion provider, and Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL, the nation’s foremost abortion advocacy group.”

Likewise, conservatives shouldn’t be shy about standing up for innocent life.

Editorials such as this one, it should be noted, tend to stand out, and perhaps even shock, because so many media run in fright from the very mention of abortion, and certainly from its dark truths.

How sad. Were more folks willing to confront those truths and boldly speak them, it’s a good bet that even more people would describe themselves as pro-life.

And there would be no question who the real extremists are.

It's about the economy, Stupid!

What Democrats excel in is changing the subject and projection. Barack Obama is bankrupting this country and it is not accidental.

Democrats don't give a hoot

Democrats don't give a hoot about rape victims. In fact, likely don't even know any. What they care about is finding any and everything to use as a distraction of the truth. We must elect a patriot who can and will reverse the economic damage to our country.

In the time that Obama has

In the time that Obama has been in office, the federal debt has increased by $4.939 trillion--more than the total national debt of about $4.1672 trillion accumulated by ALL 41 U.S. presidents from George Washington through George H.W. Bush combined.

Don't be fooled again by him.

Protecting Who?

Republicans and right-wingers are very concerned about fetuses and protecting it from all manner of harm.

That is, UNTIL THEY ARE BORN.

Republicans and right-wingers would like to eliminate all social programs that protect the mother, babies, and fathers. They don't give a rat's behind if that baby is malnourished, sick, homeless or if the parents are unemployed, homeless, sick, and underfed - as long as THEY DON'T HAVE TO PAY FOR It!

Strange world, huh?

Well, first of all, this

Well, first of all, this editorial does not accurately represent Obama's position. Illinois law already provided (has so provided since the 1970's) that a viable fetus must receive medical care. The proposed law implied that non-viable fetuses should receive medical care. Obama supported the existing law and felt that it was sufficient. You may disagree; however, the editorial's claim that "some such children have simply been left to die" is factually questionable, in that if any viable fetuses were left to die, this has been quite illegal all along. Second, this editorial does not address the thorny question of whether abortion should be allowed in cases of rape, or incest, or when the pregnancy endangers the mother's life. The matter of abortions in cases of rape was, as you recall, the cause of the recent dust-up.

Sounds like a new TV show, right? This election, the Dems want to talk about abortion, or the so called "war on women." They also want to talk about Mitt Romney's money, his tax returns, or his dog. They want to talk about anything BUT the American economy, which is really sucking lemons under Obama's "leadership." Good luck with that Dems. The voters aren't asleep this election, and more "change" is coming!

Abortion stinks and even pro choice folks know it

Abortion stinks and even pro choice folks know it. Too few efforts are being made to prevent unwanted pregnancies. Reduced prevention programs, lack of education, poor or non existant parental or family support all add up to bad choices and too many unwanted pregnancies. Efforts to reduce birth control and forcing women or teens to give birth to children that they do not want... leads to children being abused and severely neglected, as well as poverty, missery and chronic dependence upon social support systems which are overburdened and being reduced in efforts to control spending. I cannot even understand why there is a discussion about "legitimate rape" or incest being a factor in whether a woman can decide about possibly having an abortion. There is more hate than help and hope in our society right now, and none of either party's discussions adequately considers the future children or pregnant woman or teens. Education and prevention of unwanted pregnancies, pre parental education, and adoption options MUST be in all of the discussions... because Abortion stinks EVEN IF you are pro choice. If you are pro life, think beyond the pregancy and forcing someone to have a child that they do not want... what else can be done to solve this problem ?

Techfan, although there are a few "How about giant ostentatious buildings? Salaries? TV shows? Gymnasiums, etc. in their educational buildings? Proselytizing?" this does not represent a majority of all churches.

There are approximately 41,000 Christian denominations and organizations in the world and there are over 450,000 churches in the United States according to Premier Tourism Marketing's website and a few others.

American Red Cross, which is considered a "large" religious charitable organization, spends 92.1% of their income on actual programs that benefit the community and poor. World Vision, which is another, spends approximately 88 cents for every dollar you donate to helping those in poverty.

I believe you will find that most every day churches and religious organizations around this community spend a great deal of their tithes and offerings or donations within this community and helping those here and aboard through foreign missions. Condemning those who do give just because a few are not good stewards is painting with a very broad brush and misleading.

I would hate to see what this world would look like if all Christian organizations and charitable religious groups decided to stop using donations to help our poor and needy. Yes Gage, the key word is "given" not "taken".

mental probelm

Anyone who believes killing unborn babies is a good thing is not the kind of person you want in a position of power. Once a mind has reached that point what would it consider a bad thing. That spirit of death is also in the gay movement since it also stops life. This is the same plan the devil has always had and he has plenty of helpers. The Word says when we bless those who do God's work we receive a blessing it would follow that we also receive a curse when we help the devil. That includes voting for those who promote death. If you want a blessing in your life and things to change try voting republican just one time and receive the blessing of being pro-life instead of pro-death.

Techfan, just as a tidbit of information I just discovered....Athought I am not a big fan of Joel Osteen, "Osteen leads the 48,000-member Lakewood Church in Houston and has not has not taken a salary from his Houston megachurch for two years. He owns one house — the same one he and his wife, Victoria, have lived in for 13 years — and until recently he drove a 9-year-old car he inherited from his late father. Osteen pays his own hotel bills, and there is no private jet." I believe I read that most of his salary comes from the sale of his many books.

Rick "Warren, for example, has repaid every dollar he has earned in the pulpit of Saddleback Church in Orange County, Calif., and pledged to give away 90 percent of his book royalties. He accepts no speaking fees"

So as far as salary goes.....I would imagine most pastors/ministers of very large churches are paid fairly well but it does not mean it all comes from the tithes and offerings the members donate.

Techfan says "Brain washing

Techfan says "Brain washing seems to be the main purpose of most churches"

Got anything to back that statement up? Last I heard it was a free choice to enter the doors of a church. If you don't believe what's being preached you are free to exit those doors as easily as you are to enter them. How is that brain washing? AND if you are referring to children, evidently you haven't darkened the door of a church lately......the attendance of children as well as our youth is severly down. Sad to say, we adults have gotten complacent and comfortable about keeping all the blessings to ourselves....either that or afraid to spread the gospel because insults and pursecution has gotten to uncomfortable for us.

My prayer is that we return to our first Love and remember the joy and excitement when we first came to know Christ. Greater is He that is in me, than he that is in the world.

democrats have been in charge of either, the white house, senate or house since Jan. of 2007. For these UNABORTED members it's easy to keep this bit of info from you. They don't want you to know they have formed the policies affecting finances, homes sales and foreclosures, soaring gas prices, division, the fed abetting illegal gun running to Mexican cartels, the isolation of our strongest ally; Israel, demoralization of ICE agents from napalitano to barr to obama, the revelation of national secrets ( white house leaks of obama personally killing bin laden), unemployment at an unprecedented rate since the Great Depression, major cities in their beloved state of California declaring bankruptcy, gas prices maintaining an all-time high, $787,000,000,000.00 "stimulus" that our great-great- great grand children will still be burdened with, Solyndra's collapse (obama was personally involved in this decision) to the tune of almost $600,000,000.00, obamacare( which is 16.66666% of the national budget)and on ad finitum. The problem with the abortion issue is those who seek it the most were NOT ABORTED. I understand abortion in the event of a life threatening situation for the mother but nothing else. My nephew has three children by birth and two from foster care. There are so many young and old couples who would love to ADOPT but can't because of the stringent requirements. Why are the constraints on murder so lax?

That fetus can't vote!

specsta, conservatives do care about others, we just "care" differently.

We believe in helping people during difficult periods not enabling them for the rest of their lives.

We believe in taking care of our own families, not expecting you to do it for us.

We believe in teaching others to care for themselves and families and encouraging them to be everything they were born to be, not making them dependent upon us and controlling them for personal financial gain and power.

We believe in investing and giving of our own time and money to help others, not taking your money away from you and paying someone else to do it.

We believe in helping others to achieve personal, financial and spiritual freedom, not in keeping them enslaved to the new Plantation Owners/Liberal BIG Government.

Why don't liberals support unborn babies? Answer: They can't vote.
