Obama chooses pop culture banality over substantial queries from news media

  • Follow Editorials

President Obama took time away from People magazine and Entertainment Tonight recently to drop in on White House reporters for an unscheduled mini-press conference.

The move came as criticism was mounting that the president had been avoiding the White House press corps in favor of fluffy pop culture outlets and starry-eyed local television reporters.

The unannounced visit to the White House briefing room is obviously an attempt to tamp down the criticism over the fact that Mr. Obama hasn’t answered press corps questions in two months. But it also has the added benefit of not allowing reporters to prepare challenging questions.

It also lessens the chance for the president to make another gaffe, as he did when, apparently off-teleprompter, he said to business owners, “You didn’t build that!”

When asked, Obama’s deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter said that pop culture and lifestyle media outlets are “equally important” to the president as the news media.

That tells you a mouthful right there.

Even when deigning to grant local reporters interviews, the White House is carefully crafting them to touch on only certain topics.

“I think that’s where a lot of Americans get their news,” Cutter says of the entertainment media.

“If so,” writes former USA Today correspondent Richard Benedetto, “a lot of Americans are only getting the president’s side of the story. And that’s the way he wants it.”

You are not allowed to ask

You are not allowed to ask Obama or Biden questions. Don't make direct eye contact either unless it has been approved. Keep your eyes cast down always in their presence unless you have been okayed in advance to make a comment.

Be fair

Pop culture type folks can ask tough questions. The morning jock guys that the President met with asked all kinds of tough questions. "if you had a super power, what would it be?" "Red or green?" . I mean these are tough penetrating issues, arn't they?

I think the President's favorite is The View. Barb tells him he is handsome and sexy. Now, who wouldn't want to hear that from BaBa WaWa?

Of course if Obama had a 100

Of course if Obama had a 100 press conferences, the right would blast him for having too many and trying to monopolize the media.

Tough Question

The question the media will not ask and Barak will not answer is, “How much was the yield in Michelle's vegetable garden this year?”

If Obama had 100 press

If Obama had 100 press conferences, maybe some of the liberal lamestream media would finally ask him about 15% (actual) unemployment, $716 billion stolen from seniors on Medicare, $16 trillion debt, doubled gasoline prices, higher electric bills, higher than normal healthcare insurance premium increases, etc.

Yeh, I wouldn't hold many press conferences either. Stay on the comedy shows Barack because that's where jokes belong.

TECH...REALLY?
Unpublished

If Bush had gone MONTHS without a press conference, you liberals would be screaming that he's hiding from the press. Of course, if I was the driver of a crap heap like Obama is now, I'd probably avoid the press as well, although he has most of them in his pocket. But, there's always Fox.

The View..I tuned in for a couple of minutes recently and Mechelle was the guest. Seated between Joy and Sherry, so much love being shown!!
Later in the show, just before the noon news Barbara announced that Obama himself would be there at a future date.
And we wonder why women tend to favor Obama?
How can a Romney or any candidate run against all that...

It's campaign season- Obama

It's campaign season- Obama is reaching out to voters in a different area. And it seems to be working- since the numbers look better for Obama when it comes to women compared to Romney.

do you lefties think the punk-in-chief was sending his brain-damaged v.p. to Tampa this week? he has no substance and biden couldn't put 2 co-hesive sentences together. The obama-biden ticket is like that bad case of crabs you caught at the democratic national convention in 2008 and just can't get rid of.

press time

Obama gets enough press time as is in the main streat media, but it's all cover up from the liberals . If he had to speak what he really thought he would continue to mess up. That's why he avoids the direct questions.

Classy bunch. I'm sure a crack whore knows a great deal about sex, but it doesn't mean that our First Lady should be working along side them.

1 and a half tax returns is 1

1 and a half tax returns is 1 and a half more than required, and 1 and a half more than the number of financial records we got from Obama on attending college.

Aww...

Why does the ACES want to consistently give our young attractive "sort of a God" president a hard time? Really.....If he says it to Entertainment Tonight it must be true, right?.....It's obvious...Our Dear Ruler just wants to make everyones' life better by using the power of the Imperial Federal Government to mandate that there be no more poverty, nor more "excess profits" no more racism , no more (insert special interest group here) ....I mean c'mon already.....Kumbaya....kumbaya.......
