Pulling punches still hurts

Obama's 'flexibility' comment is highly unsettling

  • Follow Editorials

“This is my last election. After my election, I have more flexibility.”

– President Obama, to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, when Mr. Obama thought  his microphone was off.

An unguarded comment is often quite  revealing. So is this one.

It’s just that it’s hard to know what it  reveals.

But it doesn’t sound like it’s anything good.

What does our president mean by telling a foreign leader that he has to lay low until after the election? That once the American people are taken care of, he can do what he really wants to do?

And that he has no intention of telling Americans what that is before the election?

Moreover, what does Mr. Obama have in mind for the nation’s missile defense system? And what will he do with that added “flexibility” once a lame duck?

The truth is, the country knows as little about this president’s past as any we’ve seen in modern times, and not very much at all about his future plans either. How would you characterize his stance, for instance, on North Korea? Or Iran? Or how to cut the deficit? Or Israel? Or, of course, Russia and missile defense? The list goes on.

His unguarded “hot mic” moment seems to suggest he wants to keep his intentions hidden from American voters, while giving vague encouragement to the Russian president. How odd and unsettling is that?

Mr. Obama later tried to laugh it off with a “hot mic” joke, but serious Americans shouldn’t be laughing. What other plans for “flexibility” does he have for a second term, when he’s untouchable by voters?

“This is no time for our president to be pulling punches with the American people,” Republican candidate Mitt Romney said in response, “and not telling us what he is intending to do with regards to our missile defense system, with regards to our military might, with regards to our commitment to Israel, and with regards our absolute conviction that Iran must have a nuclear weapon.”

“What other countries has he had this conversation with?” added GOP candidate Newt Gingrich.

You expect such challenges from the opposition party. But these are actually good questions on a troubling topic. What else is Mr. Obama holding back?

Obama is so inept I wonder if

Obama is so inept I wonder if he wears loafers so he won't have to tie his shoes. One more painful and embarrassing moment for America. It is not like Obama hasn't been embarrased by a hot mike incident before. Obama's other hot mike incident in his discussion with Sarkozy about the Israeli Prime minister. Then we have Fast and Furious in which thousands of guns were allowed to be smuggled into Mexico without the knowledge or permission of the Mexican government. Hundreds of Mexicans have been killed with these weapons and at least one US government agent. Now these weapons have been found in the US. Of cours there is Obama's back handed compliment to the leaders of small countries where he gives a stupid canned speech to the leaders of these countries and only changes the name of the country. http://beforeitsnews.com/story/1938/249/Danish_TV_Host_Mocks_Obama_For_H... It is amazing. Of course we have crickets from our own press on all of these incidents.

Or at least, that was the intention - it was promptly flooded with conspiracy theorists and is now an outlet for gibbering lunacy. Every now and then Obama does

Every now and then Obama does things like that making me realize just how far in over his head he is. Even if he wanted to make concessions to the Russians, for God knows whatever reason, you don't give away your hand like that in international politics. This is not Chicago ward politicians cutting deals on the street.

Sending word to Vladimir that you'll help him out is not like sending word to the minister in a church to get the vote out for you. Putin is a very scary former KGB figure who has kept power in Russia by subterfuge to the point he's all powerful. My private message to him would have been, "Who are you trying to be...Joe Stalin?"

"I looked the man in the eye.

"I looked the man in the eye. I found him to be very straight forward and trustworthy and we had a very good dialogue. I was able to get a sense of his soul. He's a man deeply committed to his country and the best interests of his country and I appreciate very much the frank dialogue and that's the beginning of a very constructive relationship,"

Techfan- I do need to apologize for once again presenting a source that doesn't live up to your expectations. I do now know that the fact that Obama has bumbled his press interviews with leaders of small countries and embarrassed the Unitied States isn't the point. It is the fact that I have used, according to you, substand sources! So just to insure that you realize this is real I will link a You Tube source! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fhv5nT34NHo

Techfan- In operation wide

Techfan- In operation wide reciever the government wa actually coordinating the effort with Mexican authorities and trying to track the guns. When the government figured out the guns were to difficult to track and the drug cartels were onto them they stopped. About 600 guns were used in wide reciever. 2,000 guns were used in Fast and Furious and no tracking of the weapons was attempted and the Mexican government was out of the loop.

You do realize that it is YOUR defense that keeps you safe from attack? Or do you think once the russians have the codes to disable our defenses, they will play nice?

Great! Portions of video

Great! Portions of video edited by Darrell Issa (crook) who won't let anyone testify if they go against his predetermined conclusions. He even shuts down his own witnesses when they start telling the truth if it's something he doesn't want to hear. Look the man up on the internet. He's a hyper-partisan hack and a criminal.
