So much for the liberal narrative

Left-wing poster boy spews hate the media inconveniently ignores

  • Follow Editorials

Too many in the mainstream media want you to believe that conservatives are behind every single instance of vitriol in public discourse.

Now along comes James Eric Fuller.

Fuller is one of the shooting victims in the Tucson, Ariz., shooting rampage for which Jared Lee Loughner stands accused. The media fixated over what twisted societal circumstances could have prompted a gunman to open deadly fire into a crowd.

Meanwhile, they're wasting no time in giving Fuller the bum's rush out of the news cycle. Why? Because Fuller, an unabashed liberal, has utterly defied the narrative being pushed by talking heads.

Fuller was taken into police custody this past weekend at a town hall meeting after grabbing a picture of Tuscon Tea Party co-founder Trent Humphries and screaming "You're dead!" As deputies tried to escort him away, he turned on the crowd and called them all "whores." He has since been involuntarily committed for psychiatric evaluation.

If this were a conservative shrieking the same outrage at -- or even about -- a liberal figure, the media would be hyper- analyzing the offender's every action and habit, and clucking their tongues over the sheer hypocrisy of unleashing hateful rhetoric on the heels of President Obama's national call for an end to such hate.

Imagine the "aha!" moment the media would have reveled in had Fuller been a right-winger.

But Fuller isn't. Until his outburst, he was a liberal poster boy in the wake of the shooting. As such, The New York Times buried its account of Fuller's arrest way back on Page A22. On ABC's This Week, Christine Amanpour mentioned his arrest merely as a passing afterthought as she wrapped up her show Sunday -- without even mentioning Fuller's uttered threat of "You're dead!"

Fuller is no shrinking violet. He's a political activist known around the Tucson area for showing up at public events and getting into shouting matches -- often spurred by his provocation.

And in a recent radio interview on the show Democracy Now -- in another aspect of this story most media are reluctant to acknowledge -- Fuller said of the shooting of Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords: "It looks like (Sarah) Palin, (Glenn) Beck, Sharron Angle and the rest got their first target." Classy.

Holding Palin, Beck and Angle in any way accountable for the Tucson shooting is beyond disgusting. And while we're on the subject of accountability, maybe more people in the media should hold Fuller accountable for the hateful things he's been spouting off.

The media seemed to overlook this report from the New York Post: that Fuller "had told the Post on Friday, the day before his arrest, that top Republican figures should be tortured -- and their ears severed.

"'There would be torture and then an ear necklace, with (Minnesota U.S. Rep.) Michelle Bachmann and Sarah Palin's ears toward the end, because they're small, female ears, and then Limbaugh, Hannity and the biggest ears of all, Cheney's, in the center,' Fuller said."

Where's the outcry over that?

Liberals purport to love free speech -- unless it's their opponents doing the talking. Then it's hate speech. What a mind-boggling double standard.

We're not unsympathetic toward Fuller as a victim of such a horrific shooting or even possibly a mental illness. But that hardly immunizes him from honest scrutiny.

Media outlets seem more than willing to sweep this episode under the rug by tersely reporting Fuller is undergoing psychiatric evaluation, he has issued an apology and the threatened Tea Party official Humphries has accepted it.

But had Fuller been pegged as non-liberal, his feet still would be held to the fire in the same way media still are holding to the fire the feet of any opinionated conservative who occupies even a minute of air time.

Oh, I'm sure Olberman and Co.

Oh, I'm sure Olberman and Co. will say conservative talk provoked a reaction in the man. It's Bush, Cheney, Palin, Limbaugh, OUR fault always.

Let's see--the recent victim

Let's see--the recent victim of a horrible crime, a person of no other great importance, gets unduly upset against people who he perceives to be unsympathetic, but doesn't actually hurt anybody--he gets arrested and turned over for mental health evaluation--his misdeeds and subsequent arrest are well publicized in the mainstream media--and the ACES thinks that this is a major issue worthy of an editorial? For crying out loud, why bother?

We all know the mainstream

We all know the mainstream media has a radical left wing, anti-conservative agenda and is biased beyond belief. I think even the liberals are starting to be a bit ashamed.

Fortunately we don't have to worry about them too much longer. Their ratings are going down the drain. They will soon find themselves joining the 99 weekers "union".

Then you are beyond hope.

Then you are beyond hope. How someone who "claims" to be retired Army could identify with the left is beyond me. You claim you have fought for our freedom. Fought for our Constitution. But yet you support the very party who tramples on both.

Go figure.

Ain't it the truth Chillen.

Ain't it the truth Chillen. The liberal media keeps doing the same thing and expecting a different result. Meanwhile their readers, viewers, and advertisers are deserting them in droves. I hope they had a useful minor at that liberal arts college.

What did the liberal media do

What did the liberal media do wrong here? Nothing. The relatively minor incident (not a major public figure; no one was hurt) was thoroughly reported in all the major media, the guy got arrested and evaluated, which was also thoroughly reported in all the major media. There is no issue here. None. Do the mainstream media jump for days all over every unimportant right-winger who curses somebody out? Of course not.

retired, I doubt the army

retired, I doubt the army would have taken me back in 1965 since I was only a few months old.....

Hate to break it to you but both parties have sold out to big business. Just ask your hero barack "bp" "goldman sachs" "union-man" obama.

Enjoy your entitlements. Your grandkids certainly won't have them thanks to the current retired generation and the soon to be retired baby boomers. You folks have spent us into the poor house.

My generation aims to fix it. Hold on. It will be a rough ride. Possibly even for you once food inflation & rising energy prices wipe you out financially.

Liberals. Party of the "common" man. HA! Anyone who believes that is just fooling themselves. Just ask Al "second chakra" Gore.

Retired, there could not have

Retired, there could not have been enough liberals to have a two man camping trip among the founders. They did not believe, nor did they include, wording in the Constitution to redistribute the assets of one man to the pocket of another. They did not include anything in that same Constitution to support the ignorant and lazy. That was left up to families and churches, the very ones that knew whether there was a real need or not.

All of the social programs are the invention of the liberal mindset in the last 75 years. Thank You FDR for SS, and LBJ for the Great Society, and all of the others that added stupid programs to enable half the populace to become dependent on a mother government. Slavery is supposed to be dead and gone, but it is being kept alive by the liars/liberals that shackle their sheep under the guise of "assistance".

Additionally, F.O.X., those three letters you purport to claim equalilty in the media?...CBS, ABC, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, The New York Times, Chicago Tribune, The Los Angeles Times, The Atlanta Journal Constitution, ...........of course, I could go on, but you get the idea....against FOX....and of course, the AC.

So a 10-1 liberal to conservative news odds in your favor is not enough?
In reality, it's much more as to odds, stacked in your favor. But it's not liberal leaning? Come on, you're not being objective, or worse, you're in denial.

"That's just pure hyperbole

"That's just pure hyperbole and I can prove it in a three letter word. FOX. But don't let the facts get in the way of your opinion."

Retired Army....I challenge you to back up that statement with some actual facts........good luck. I seriously doubt you will though....you haven't any time anyone has asked you.

Did you see on abc, cbs, cnn, cnbc, msnbc, new york times, washington post, huffington post, ajc, los angeles times or any of obama's pet broadcasts, newscasts and newsprint about how many state dinners America has hosted in this regime for allies? We've hosted three state dinners: India, Mexico, and China. All stalwart allies. At least two support North Korea and Iran. Butt kissing cowards we are. We're headed for a huge comeuppance. obama, reid and pelosi set us upon this course. Political correctness must end, pragmatism must take over. lefties are taking us on the road to perdition.

When I served in the military ( Jan. 26, 1968 until Dec. 2, 1971), I had some bad coffee, had delusions of being a liberal, but fortunately went to the toilet and flushed that crap out of my system.

This terrorist, Loughner, has gotten his message of hate across, and it is just spreading like wildfire everytime there is this meaningless diatribe about who is more sanctimonious, the left or the right. In my opinion, 3 lefts make a right and 3 rights make a left; you all are equal!
