They just hate life

We must admit who our enemies are and what drives them

  • Follow Editorials

Eric Holder recently warned Americans in a broadcast interview how real and imminent the threat of "homegrown" terrorism is. It keeps him up nights, he said.

Yet, oddly, he never talked about the source of the terrorism. He never once mentioned radical Islam or Muslims or jihad, or the multiple attacks and plots by Muslim radicals on U.S. military installations -- including the bloody assault by a Muslim soldier on his fellow troops at Fort Hood, Texas.

How can you battle an enemy you won't even name or acknowledge?

Answer: You really can't.

But that's just the political and tactical part of the war on terrorism that this administration refuses to publicly admit. The larger question goes beyond that -- and even beyond the issue of radical Islam.

The larger issue isn't economics, either, as many would like to believe. Osama bin Laden comes from an extraordinarily wealthy family.

The real source of our present threat even goes beyond sheer, blind hatred -- though hatred is something of a sacrament among radical Muslims. Otherwise, jihadists would only target the infidels they hate so much.

No, the real issue is bigger than all that.

It's nihilism.

Simply put, nihilism is a belief that nothing in this life has worth, that existence is meaningless.

This, at bottom, is what we are fighting today.

In the case of Muslim jihadists, there is a belief system that this life is so without worth that it is actually a good thing to kill "nonbelievers" and their sympathizers, and that one will be rewarded for it in the next life -- with 72 virgins, or some such thing.

It's interesting to note, too, the Muslim radicals' definition of "martyr": In the Christian faith it is someone who is killed for his faith; in radical Islam it is someone who kills for his faith.

These are all very dangerous beliefs, and they spring from a single font: the assertion that this life means nothing.

Many believe Islam needs a reformation. If so, it needs to move clearly and very prominently away from hatred, intolerance and nihilism.

These destructive beliefs, more than anything -- more than poverty, disease, natural disasters or deprivation -- plague mankind.

For deprivation, there is progress and good works; the truth is, as modern philosopher Wayne Dyer notes, we do live in a world of abundance.

But those of us who would give to others what they most desperately need are at risk in certain parts of the world from those who believe in nothing except meaninglessness. Indeed, a female suicide bomber in Pakistan targeted a World Food Program food distribution center Saturday -- lobbing grenades before setting off her suicide vest.

She killed nearly 50 people and injured almost 100 more in the blast carried out on Christmas Day -- intended to punish people who were feeding tens of thousands of families after that region's deadly floods earlier this year. The hungry will be punished too: The food program was naturally suspended after the attack.

That's the insane method. Nihilism is the madness.

Jihadists must drive themselves crazy with the notion that someone somewhere in the world might be having a good time. They hate people of other religions. They hate freedom. They hate women's equality. They hate peace. They hate Christmas.

At bottom, though, and most importantly, they hate this life.

The Obama administration needs to deal with the problem honestly, stop dodging and wishing reality away, and accept that our enemy is radical Islam.

The rest of the world, especially the Muslim world, needs to recognize the source of the problem.

Yes, but the mamby-pamby

Yes, but the mamby-pamby liberalism and political correctness so rampant in this country will insure that the problem will never be honestly recognized or dealt with.

Finally...somebody stating

Finally...somebody stating the God's honest truth about what a sad state of affairs we are in, where Political Correctness is more important than the lives of American citizens. We have made PC the ruling concept above all other things, and we will pay a dear price for this madness later on, I am sure. You cannot and will not defeat an enemy that you are so in fear of mentioning the very name, that you instead resort to vague references, lest you offend someone. Sheer lunacy, and a dangerous course of action, if you are serious about defending this country. I said it before and I will say it again. The battle against radical Islam has just begun, and until we realize that this is a struggle for the very soul and survival of our nation, will we have any chance at all of winning.

All these excuses we make for

All these excuses we make for radical Islam are going to seem as foolish as those we made for Nazi Germany before WWII in hopes of avoiding war. Idiots killing people for no reason other than they are of a different religion. Same motives with both instances of insane murdering.

Oh no AC...that's impossible.

Oh no AC...that's impossible. Haven't you heard? Islam is the faith of peace, understanding, and acceptance. Yeah, I'm laughing too. And Eric Holder is a deer caught in the headlights...clueless and spineless. Good thing he'll be out in 2012, along with his boss.

Shame on you ACES, I can now

Shame on you ACES, I can now truly say I'm disappointed.

I've lived in the south for years, and I'm used to the assumption that everyone is Christian and I live with that.

But to read a racist, hate-filled article and see not a person but the name of the paper attached is disgusting. I can't see how you can preach love & forgiveness on Sunday and on Tuesday condemn millions because they don't agree with you.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but is the AC so blinded by your personal beliefs you forgot that Islam is not the enemy?

Just a quick reminder for those in Augusta that must have missed it but: The unabomber, Oklahoma-City, Columbine, V-Tech, '96 Olympics bomber, the college professor in Alabama that shot her peers in Feb, Jeffery Dahmer, oh and lets not forget Jim Jones.....the list of American mass murderers goes on and I haven't found a Muslim yet.

United States has created

United States has created more enemies than terrorist it has killed by illegally invading Iraq using known false pretexts and by using torture at Guantanamo and at "black site" CIA and other U.S. military run prisons. The 9/11 attacks were planned by Al Qaeda leaders while living in Afghanistan. There is no evidence that the Taliban knew about the 9/11 plans beforehand. Less than 100 Al Qaeda remain in Afghanistan. Why does United States occupy Afghanistan 9 years 3 months later and label anyone who resists as a Muslim extremist or terrorist? United States kills and kills and kills with drone strikes in Pakistan that polarize and destabilize that country just like United States' secret wars in Laos and Cambodia during the Vietnam war destabilized those countries. Targeted assassinations are illegal under international law. They are war crimes. The Bush administration also violated many international laws at Guantanamo Bay detention facility. It is no surprise that U.S. actions have led to blow-back against this country, its occupation forces, and its citizens. Expect further legal and political repercussions as well as armed resistance against this country in future as it continues to wage illegal wars and occupations of predominantly Muslim nations.

Apparently justmy2cents

Apparently justmy2cents didn't see or hear about the news articles of Fort Hood and Major Hasan.

Or the twin towers collapse when two planes were flown into them piloted by MUSLIMS. Or the Pentagon when a plane was flown into it by MUSLIMS. Or the plane that went down in Pennsylvania when AMERICANS stopped MUSLIMS from flying it into another target.

Or the attempt by American MUSLIM Reid to blow up the plane he was on. Or the Somali MUSLIM that attempted to do the same.

Or the thwarted attempt by American MUSLIMS to kill soldiers at Ft Dix. Or the MUSLIM that placed a bomb in Times Square.

And the hits just keep on coming.......

Just2cents, racist? What is

Just2cents, racist? What is "racist" in the commentary? Islam is not a race. It's a religion that includes people of all races. Your attempt to create a divisive racial issue where there is none belies your own prejudice and agenda. Stop trying to play the "race card", especially when it's totally irrelevant to the issue at hand. The only hatred here is what YOU posted -- a hatred for the truth.

Muslim extremists are

Muslim extremists are equal-opportunity murderers. No one ever said they target liberals. I think the point is that oftentimes liberals refuse to recognize that such extremist Muslims even exist (see comments by Holder, Obama, etc.) If those who are given the charge of protecting America continue to keep their heads firmly planted in the sand, we're all in trouble. We don't need ostriches in charge of national security.

Theo van Gogh, Kurt

Theo van Gogh, Kurt Westergaard, Lars Vilks, Salmon Rushdie and most recently the Swedish bombing show that Muslim killings are all not just "blowback" in response to American actions in Muslim countries.

Eric Holder is not going to

Eric Holder is not going to mention Islam as being the basic source of terrorism because he works for Obama. The reason is that Obama is a Muslim (although Obama politically denies this) and he would be pointing his finger at his boss. This is not a divisive racial issue as stated above, this is a fact. Every single person in the 9/11 attack on the WTC was a Muslim. We have a war and the enemy is very visibly Islam but the PC wants us to think they are just, "a religion that includes people of all races", and not notice. As the AC says, "identify the enemy"; and they are clearly the radical Muslims. They are planning the next terrorist attack and Erick Holder is supposed to catch them and he is afraid to identify them. May God protect us !

Let's see: waterboarding vs.

Let's see: waterboarding vs. mass murder/beheadings/bombings/flying bombs. How could any rational individual place the blame all on the U.S., and absolve a bunch of murdering Islamic terrorists from wrongdoing? The mindset of some folks is just astounding, and simply defies all common sense. If waterboarding 1000 terrorists could help prevent a single suicide bomber from murdering innocent people, then we need to make that practice S.O.P. in dealing with these lunatics.

Wait, maybe I'm reading the

Wait, maybe I'm reading the wrong article, like I'm wrong about muslim only wanting to target liberials. Holder said he is worried about homegrown terrorists. So, when did the correlation between the word terrorist and muslim completely take over our vocabulary? Yes, most of recent terror incidents involve muslim faithed people, but should we exclude the rest? Looking too deep into one thing leaves you open to others, ask any of the people who lost love ones in Oklahoma City. I guess the ACES and others on this page, only think muslims are capable of committing terrorist acts.......

I don't think that the ACES

I don't think that the ACES "only think muslims are capable of committing terrorist acts" but they are the only one's that Obama and his group are afraid to mention by name. And Muslims (notice the capital M as should be used) are the predominant terrorist groups causing world fear.

It is agreed that anyone is

It is agreed that anyone is capable of committing a terrorist act. Oklahoma City is a good example. However, if you look at the vast majority of terrorist acts in the news over the past 10 years, I'd venture to say that the vast majority have been committed by Muslim extremists. I mean, I've not heard of anyone shouting, "Praise Jesus" just before they shoot an innocent victim, try to blow up a plane, or set a bomb off on a subway. Not all Muslims are terrorists, but most terrorists (at present) do appear to be Muslims. Just the facts. Facts that we ignore at our own peril.

Yes, stereotyping is easy and convenient. But, neither can you disregard the statistics that demonstrate that, more often than not, it is Islamic militants that commit the majority of terrorist acts. If you forget that fact, then you're setting yourself up to be ill-prepared for the next attack. A little research into and preparation for your enemy's tendencies can prevent a lot of future funerals.

It's THEIR fault.. WE did

It's THEIR fault.. WE did not DO anything to CAUSE these people to hate us.. Limbo, Beck and Faux news by-line... unthinking minds can be easily manipulated to believe all sorts of propaganda and lies when they 'WANT' to hear it. The slothfulness of the non-thinkers in allowing 'others' to determine their 'outlook' will remain the predominate problem in America. The AC and Mr. Ryan being a prime example of this phenomena.
