Where does his faith lie?

Obama's religion is not as troubling as his faith -- in government

  • Follow Editorials

Much has been made recently over questions of the president's religious views.

In reporting a poll that says 18 percent of Americans believe Barack Obama is a Muslim, national media have condescendingly added the words "mistakenly" and "incorrectly." Yet, it's quite possible Americans aren't as dumb as the media think: Maybe they're aware of Mr. Obama's Christian affiliation -- and just don't believe it.

There's been more than a little silliness associated with the discussion. MSNBC's Chuck Todd claimed recently that Obama is the most religious president of our times -- noting, as proof, the Bible verses the president gets on his BlackBerry. To make matters worse, Todd oddly adds that people might realize how Christian Obama is if he actually went to church.

Well, yeah, Chuck. His going to church might indeed strengthen your claim that he's the most religious president of his era.

The serious part of this sideshow is that it reveals Americans have little clue what's inside their president, after years of seeing him in the news every day.

The main part of Mr. Obama's faith that troubles us is his unbridled faith in government -- to make life fair, to redistribute wealth, to pick the economic winners and losers, to referee every aspect of life, to save the Earth from extinction.

His religious affiliation may not be as important as his constant tinkering with our lives -- which, it must be said, he does religiously.

He doesn't seem to like this

He doesn't seem to like this country, staying at the White house or Christians. He is very supportive of Muslins and said he thought the muslin call to pray was the most beautiful sound on earth. I don't think anyone needs to figure him out because out of "the heart the mouth speaks" so I just listen to his words and he tells us who he is and what he thinks. He also agrees with a lot of evil that is being done and sin that is celebrated. Nothing wrong with him that a relationship with Jesus wouldn't fix.

OJP.........if Obama says it

OJP.........if Obama says it then it must be true? He also said he would close GITMO in a year, end both wars, have no lobbyists on his cabinet, and post all bills for the public prior to signing them........ Were any of those statements true?

OJP, just more rabble rousing

OJP, just more rabble rousing and attempts to instigate hatred on the part of the AC staff.

As for his religion, or lack thereof, I believe he IS entitled to the rights endowed by Our Constitution; INCLUDING those identified in the 1st Amendment.

As to the aforementioned 1st Amendment, it often seems that most of those on the right prefer to limit those 1st Amendment rights to just the individuals and religions THEY deem worthy of them; which of course, would not include right to choice, homosexual, muslim, wiccan, polytheistic, medical marijuana, atheists agnostics, and often, democrat folks.

As for Obama, I really hope he is trying to hide atheistic tendencies; America would be much better off with an atheistic president.

Medical marijuana? First

Medical marijuana? First amendment? Marijuana is against federal law, but I don't see the President suing California for thumbing their nose at the feds and doing it anyway.........why is that? He had no trouble coming after Arizona for going after his potential voters, I mean criminal trespassers.

Again and again, as I have

Again and again, as I have said repeatly-"The press didn't do their job of vetting Obama" We probably know what size speculum Palin's doctor uses, ever piece of moose dropping she stepped on, but Obama, Who cares? There are only two writings by Obama in his undergraduate years available to the public, Grotto and "POPs". Read any analysis of them in the media, any discussion of there implications, any interviews with Obama about what he meant in POPS? (Pops is a distubing poem and many analysts think there are sexual boundray violations and the possiblity exists it was plagerized from Frank Marshall Davis) Naw, much more important that we know where Palin got her hair done, what Joe the plumber's tax returns look like, and discussion of a possible 20 year old affair by McCain..LOL Now , when Obama says thing like the most beautiful sound in the world is the muslim call to prayer, talks about his muslim faith and Michelle talks about Kenya as his home with no dicussion or clearification in the press the press wonders why people doubt Obama's religious claims..PLEASE!! You know the press realizes this is a much deeper issue and they screwed up when you listen to an NPR segments on myths in our culture and one is Obama is a muslim. Yep were the great unwashed idiots and the press will tell us what to think...BWHAHAHAHAHAHA

I simply don't know if Obama

I simply don't know if Obama is a Christian, that is between Obama and God! I do know there are problems with Marx based liberation theology he listened to for 20 years at the Rev Wright's church. Any discussion in the media about black liberation theology? Naw, On ward to a deep discussion of Trigs parantage....

Wow! 5 posters and already 2

Wow! 5 posters and already 2 have lied. Lay off the right wing web sites and e mails and at least try to get Obama's quote correct. They all conveniently leave out the "one" in "the prettiest sounds" quote. I think Gregorian chants are one of the prettiest sounds on earth, must mean I'm a Catholic. No, sorry, I'm not. As to the Muslim faith quote. http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/muslimfaith.asp When opponents claim that they just disagree with Obama's policies and throw these types of tripe around, their argument goes out the window. It shows pure and simple hatred. They hope if they throw enough mud, some of it will stick. It doesn't matter if it's true. I guess that's what passes for civil discourse in today's right wing circles.

The obama was born a Muslim

The obama was born a Muslim and raised a Muslim through his early childhood years. Of course some of that will be ingrained, just as we all are influenced by our early training.
Then the obama moved into a socialist household and began training during his teen years in secularism. Of course some of that will be ingrained, just as we all are influenced by our teen training.
Then, as an adult, obama joined a "christian church" which based it's beliefs on a Marxist influenced, Black Liberation Theology. For the next 20 years he was exposed to, and worshiped under, the teachings of a radical, hate whitey, leftist. Of course he's influenced by his early adulthood training, just as we all are and, of course, he CHOSE and remained in, this last "christian" religion to claim as his own.
What is his religion? I think the appropriate question is, what is his philosophy? His unrestricted and uncontrolled behavior and his apparently endless attacks on this country and its constitution make it pretty clear that we have made a horrible mistake with this diversity experiment.
Those who refuse to see and analyze will continue to prove the adage, "There are none so blind as those who refuse to see".

Unpublished

Obama is a Christian... just as he's a citizen of the US. The youtube video only shows himself trying to defend himself against something John McCain had said- his words got mixed up and corrected himself.

Truckin Ranger-McCain

Truckin Ranger-McCain specifically requested and ordered that nobody in his campaign use Obama's middle name Hussain! Obama said McCain never brought up my muslim faith in the clip! What were you watching?- Anybody ever wonder why , in the cut throat world of publishing an unknown with two poems, Pops and Grotto, was given a $25,000 advance to write a book on the constitution and civil rights but instead wrote Dreams of my Father? Didn't occur to The American lame stream media either..On to Britol Palin's love life, much more important!

President Obama behaves like

President Obama behaves like a secular humanist, which is in keeping with 90% of Democrats and a sizable number of Republicans. The editorial does have a good point in that Obama's belief in big government permeates and directs his every action.

First, "Muslin" is a fabric.

First, "Muslin" is a fabric. "Muslim" refers to somebody who practices Islam. Second, the birther movement and the "Obama is Muslim" rumors were started by extremist fringe elements on the far right. These people are so far right, they can't even really be called members of the GOP. But the GOP seized on these claims to rally people who will believe anything just because their leaders (or the media) said it to support GOP candidates. Go to the Rachel Maddow show website and look up info on "The Fringe." The GOP tends to use fear and rumor to keep people scared and worried about terrorists, Islam, and losing rights.

Third, if you think Obama is infringing on our rights by extending health insurance to most Americans, you must have forgotten that Bush gave the ok for the gov't to listen to our phone calls, monitor our internet use, and detain people at the airport just because of their ethnic appearance-- all in the name of national security. That seems like more controlling or monitoring everything we do than anything Obama has tried to do.

Lastly, you all seem to think the GOP is so for the people. If this was so, the GOP would not have held up an extension of unemployment benefits and it would not be blocking legislation that would free up lending and promote stimulus programs to help small businesses, which would push job growth to get the economic recovery back on track. The GOP is the friend of big business and the wealthy, not the little guy. And, before you all start trying to prove the GOP is blocking these spending bills to stop the growth of the deficit and prevent raising taxes, it has been proven in at least 3 different recessions that the best and quickest way to get out of one is to let the gov't engage in deficit spending to stimulate the economy. I would also point out that the tax increases the Dems want right now would simply allow the Bush tax cuts to expire for people making more than $250,000 a year, not on the rest of us. The GOP wants to raise taxes on all of us by letting the Bush tax cuts expire for everybody. If people would actually hear the whole story instead of only key words, most would see that Obama is doing what he can to help most Americans while the GOP is putting up obstacles and using rumors the promote fear to prevent it.

The real leadership issue in DC is not Obama, though h could bemore vocal and more active as a leader. The real issues are the GOP Blockade and the Pelosi Agenda, which is even more radical than Obama's. Obama has had to rein in Pelosi a few times in the last couple years to make her compromise on bills to get things done. If you want to pick on any Democrat for being a borderline socialist and aspiring to dictatorship, you should be attacking Nancy Pelosi. And I say this as a liberal democrat.

It's simple: A significant

It's simple: A significant percentage of any human population will believe what they are told. If they are not told something otherwise, they will continue to believe what they are told. They may be told what they want to believe (Yes, Fox is in the marketing, not the news, business.). But without a contradicting story, they are left comfortable in their ignorance.

Let's see.....

Born a Muslim.....
Given a Muslim name....
Obama's father was a Muslim....
Raised a Muslim....
Attended a Muslim school in Jakarta....
Stated his religion, in Indonesia, as Muslim....
Step-Father was a Muslim....
The Arab world considers him a Muslim....
Photographed in traditional Somali (Muslim) garb.....
Made major speech in Cairo to, "The Muslim World".....
(has never made any other major speech to other specific religions)
Jeremiah Wright, Obama's, "Mentor", is former Muslim......
No display of public worship since leaving Wright's church.....

If it walks like a duck......

Oh, btw, since it is public record that he lied on the US Census form, then why would we take him at his word when he denies that he may in fact be a closet Muslim? He certainly can't admit it, now can he?

Last time I checked, listening to my phone calls, monitoring my internet use, or checking me at an airport isn't going to cost me anything except a little inconvience. Nothing in my phone calls or internet use would get me into trouble and if checking me at the airport keeps American safer...then so be it.

As for the president's

As for the president's religious beliefs.....God and The President are the only ones who truly know if he is a Christian. With that being said, anyone can call themself a Christian but does their action show it? There is a big difference in saying you know God or believe in God and actually being a true Christian. The Devil and his demons know God and they shutter, the Bible says. It's not about religion, It's about relationship.
