Price on his head, no one at his back

Sheriff draws a million-dollar bounty, but no support from Obama

  • Follow Editorials

If a Republican president were demonizing the state of Arizona as the Obama administration has been, then the "mainstream" media would surely be wondering: Has the president helped create a climate of hatred, fear and anger that might endanger people?

Such as, oh, inspiring death threats against Arizona law enforcement officers?

They won't begin to suggest that, of course -- not with a Democrat in the Oval Office, especially one that the evidence shows the media actively tried to get elected. But no doubt emboldened by the administration's attacks on our own state of Arizona, a Mexican drug cartel has reportedly put a $1 million bounty on the head of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Arpaio, the renowned toughest sheriff in the nation, regularly gets threats -- but not this serious and credible.

"With this heightened awareness of his role in the immigration issue, we've got to take this one a little bit more seriously -- with a million-dollar contract out on him," a sheriff's spokeswoman said.

Arpaio took that high-profile role on himself, certainly. But instead of having his back, the president has stabbed him in it, criticizing every supporter of law and order in Arizona. Mr. Obama has even gone out of his way to do it -- suggesting Hispanics taking their children for ice cream might be unfairly targeted for arrest. He knows that's not true.

In not only failing to stand up for law enforcement, but actively working against it, Mr. Obama and his cohorts have isolated and denigrated the very people doing his job of defending our country.

When was the last time a president of the United States was so openly hostile to American interests?

The answer: It's unprecedented.

PS aren't you also concerned about the death threats against the federal judge? Maybe all of the hotheaded nonsense needs to calm down, starting with editorials like this one.

Arapio loves this. It makes him look like even more of a rebel, tough action, commen sense Sheriff. In reality, he's the closest thing to fascism that we have in America.

So then Ohh, you relate law

So then Ohh, you relate law enforcement to fascism? How exactly do you defend that deluded position? Why do you believe this sheriff is doing anything but enforcing the laws of AZ? Has he ever been charged with doing anything illegal? Why do you think that illegals should continue to flow across our borders freely? Please enlighten us.

definition: fascism "a

definition: fascism "a political theory advocating an authoritarian hierarchical government (as opposed to democracy or liberalism); ideologically based on centralized government, government control of business, repression of criticism or opposition, a leader cult and exalting the state and/or religion above individual rights"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't sheriff's get elected? How is enforcing the federal law "government control"? If that's the case then I guess the govt should just ignore robbery, murder, rape, etc.

I think the liberals want no laws at all. Except the ones that benefit them. Selfish.

A lot of assuming questions

A lot of assuming questions there. "Why do you think that illegals should continue to flow across our borders freely?" How the heck am I supposed to answer this question exactly?

Its impossible to come to any meaningful endgame with that kind of thought process. "ITS THE LAW" doesn't actually mean anything. Enforcement is the only thing that truely matters. We have a ton of laws on the books that aren't enforced. I don't see you getting angry about those.

The Drug war is awful, but its the law. You have law enforcement officials all over America that differ on the best way to enforce that law. Some people, like Arapio, think that brute force and ignoring simple human rights are the best ways to solve that problem (He's under FBI investigation). This $1000000 isn't about immigration. Its about the War on Drugs.

Anyways...I don't like Arapio for his drug war policies first and foremost.

Ok, then something easier.

Ok, then something easier. Why and how is Arpaio using brute force and ignoring simple human rights? Examples please. Btw, he has been under investigation for the last several years, for several things, and by many branches of law enforcement. Cleared every time. Oh, btw, FYI, it is about 600 million.

One of the main problems with the fence is that it has to go on private property and a lot of the landowners have put up a fight to keep it off their property. Hmmm, which side should the AC take, border fence or essentially eminent domain and taking of private property?

It is not surprising that he would be under FBI investigation after all LOOK WHO is running the FBI. Arapio must have stopped a Latino taking his kid out for an ice cream.
Arapio runs the best jail system in the country. He EVEN MAKES the prisoners RAISE THEIR OWN FOOD. Boy that is brute force and ignoring simple human rights. Better call the ACLU.
The only problem with Arapio is we don’t have a lot more like him. But I do have to admit Arapio would most likely make a very bad community organizer.

Scary, scary stuff. That's

Scary, scary stuff. That's all I can say about conservatives admiration for a man who shows little concern for human decency. Arapio quote: "I wish that the Phoenix police would arrest everybody, even if they're not sure." Arapio has this thing called "crime supression sweeps." They're essentially road blocks so that deputies can check latinos immigration status.

"If speeding, broken tail lights, cracked windshields, and unfastened seat belts do not provide sufficient opportunities for immigration checks, police can use local ordinances regulating things like noise, yard upkeep, and the number of people living in one residence." - Jacob Sullum of Reason Magazine

See, I don't have a huge problem with the Arizona law. A lot of it is common sense. But I have a huge problem with people like Sheriff Joe taking advantage of the law's provisions. He abuses power with any chance he can get. He is media obsessed and power hungry. Any self-respecting conservative should throw this guy out.

"Prisoners have filed

"Prisoners have filed thousands of legal claims of abuse against Arpaio and his deputies – and by families of those who’ve died under his watch. A federal investigation found Arpaio’s deputies used “stun guns” on inmates strapped into restraint chairs; some have died in those chairs. One lawsuit brought by a dead prisoners’ family ended in an $8 million settlement after 'a surveillance video that showed fourteen guards beating, shocking, and suffocating the prisoners, and after the sheriff’s office was accused of discarding evidence, including the crushed larynx of the deceased.'" -Washington Independent

I'm sorry but you are not able to read the article correctly.

The tax on the super rich which was triple what it is today was paid from 1940-1980.

Those were the USA's glory days when we accomplished great things before the Reaganites destroyed our country ran up huge deficits and used impeachment to force Clinton to sign their evil FREE TRADE DEALS. Those were passed with almost 100% Republicans in congress.
