Faith is not a crime

With one voice, world should condemn slaying of Christian aid workers

  • Follow Editorials

All anyone in the media can talk about in the case of 10 aid workers slaughtered by the Taliban is what the aid workers were up to.

Were they spies? Or worse -- gasp! -- were they Christians proselytizing?

Even entertaining the question is acceding to the enemy's insidious slander against Americans and Christians.

Surviving aid workers have felt compelled to deny any Christian motives on the part of the murdered health-care workers in Afghanistan, six of whom were angels from America.

We have little doubt the medical volunteers were simply tending to people who desperately needed health care. But we say: What if they were missionaries? Is that a crime now?

Yes, in certain Muslim sections of the world.

To aid workers wherever you are in the world: We don't care what your motivation is, as long as you are helping others. But if you are doing it because of your Christian faith, you shouldn't be made to feel ashamed about it, or deny it three times before the cock crows.

In effect, radical Muslims want to criminalize the spreading of Christianity. Radical Muslims love to throw the word "martyr" around, claiming they can become one if they just kill enough infidels. What a perverted world view.

But truly, in the sight of God, it is people such as these aid workers who are martyrs -- especially if they were acting out their faith!

Those wearing their faith on their sleeves will be judged by their actions. Judge the Taliban's, and judge the aid workers' however you like. One set of actions is from another century, like the savages who perpetrated them.

Regardless of the motivations of those involved, the killing of aid workers may be the most heinous crime known to man. If one could harness the wind and the earth and the water, one could scarcely commit a more despicable or tragic act.

The enemy loves to point the finger to any American combat error as a war crime -- even as our enemies cower like clucking chickens behind their women and children and other innocents, baiting our forces to attack. Much of the world is prone to fall for the ploy, putting American forces on the defensive in world opinion -- while our enemy, with impunity, employs the scythe of 7th-century tactics.

Where's the world's condemnation for our enemy's many war crimes?

Taliban terrorists regularly

Taliban terrorists regularly murder Americans, as it is their obligation according to Muhammad. Not only that, They murder their own people every day, by sending a bomb laden vehicles into a popular places, or strap on a vest bomb and walk into a crowd. My thoughts are, I wonder if the kill ratio will go down, when we finally pull our troops out of that hell hole?

I would rather take my chances in Afghanistan, than America any day.America is the root of anti-christianity.The war here involves Christians and non-christians.Believers versus unbelievers. The Taliban are hateful and we all know that but don't be beguiled into thinking their the spiritual enemies. Some of the worse sufferings of Christians has taken place on American soil.I guess enslaving a race of people for over 400 years is considered spiritual.Wake up and smell the coffee!!!

River1 and Runner - you are both delusional - as Baron pointed out correctly - when you enter a foreign country , you no longer have the same protections afforded in America , and 9/11 was not a " muslim atrocity " as you state , it was a terrorist attack and the perpetrators had their own agenda completely seperate from the STANDARD muslim followers .

I just recently began reading

I just recently began reading the postings on this site and I must say I am shocked at the blatant anti-Christian sentiment expressed here. Christians have been referred to as zealots, right wing nuts, bigots, mentally ill, Bible thumpers, and so on. Today, some posters have even expressed blame and hostility towards the American Christian aid workers that were brutally murdered in Afghanistan. It appears to me that their ant-Christian bias and hatred has clouded their sense of moral decency. Many of you accuse Christians of trying to force their faith down the throats of others. Is not that exactly what you are doing? You try to convince others that the Bible is not true, that the only true god is man and his intellect. Your religion is called secular humanism. The very thing you accuse Christians of …you do yourself. You accuse Christians of intolerance and arrogance yet you apparently have zero tolerance for followers of Christ. And yes I am one of them. I don’t agree with your position on this issue but I choose to respond in a respectful manner. Why is it necessary to resort to name-calling?

Over 2000 years ago Christ willing left the glories of Heaven and entered our sinful world so we could know God and be reconciled to Him. God loves us! He created us! But we are all sinful and selfish. Because God is holy and just He must punish sin. Yet He loves us and has provided forgiveness for our sins. Because of His love for us God sent His Son, Jesus into the world so that we could be reconciled to Him and have eternal life. The Bible says in Is 53:6 “All we like sheep have gone astray, everyone has turned to his own way. And the Lord laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” Jesus willing laid down His life, paying the penalty for the sins of the whole world with His own blood. When Jesus died on the cross God laid on Him all my sin, shame and guilt. Christ bore the penalty for my sins and yours. Greater love has no man than to lay down his life for his friend. But God demonstrated His own love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us. None of us deserve God’s grace but He offers it to us as a free gift. We are free to accept it or reject it. A gift is only ours if we choose to accept it. Never would God try to shove it down our throats but He patiently continues to draw us to Himself through the Holy Spirit. Neither should any Christian try to shove the Gospel down another person’s throat. The message of the Gospel is a message of love, grace, and hope. Isn’t that what hurting people are looking for? I am so thankful that someone shared this message with me. It changed my life!

When Jesus was on the Cross dying for mankind there were two thieves one on either side of him. That day one of the thieves humbly asked Jesus to remember him when He entered His kingdom. The other thief cursed and mocked Jesus. The message of the Cross divided people then and it continues to do so today. Those two responses represent man’s choice to accept or reject the Gospel of Christ. How shall we escape is we neglect so great a salvation? Choose carefully.

amen Emma. these Americans

amen Emma. these Americans were giving their services for many years without attempting to promote the Bible. anti-Christian zealots will always come out of the woodwork when they smell something. amazing how, like typical liberals, they can pounce on perceptions and not wait for the truth. and when the truth is known, they smear the truth.

Emma, thank you for a breath

Emma, thank you for a breath of fresh air. Have courage and don't leave your post...you and many more like you are needed. Foolish man/woman upholds himself, a wiseman /woman upholds the Lord.

God has given us life...given us sheppards and disciples for over 2000 years, provided an instructional manual (printed in every language of the world) for healthy living and good relationships... made available the Holy Counselor.... extended an open invitation for eternal life. How much better could it get?

What I keep asking of the non-believers, and it falls on deaf ears, is this....What are you offering that's better than God's plan? So far, no takers. What a surprise!

The non-believers are their own worst enemies, blind and worshipping themselves.

Some of the Christians are also upset with those of us who speak out with truth.

They are partly correct when they refer to the importance of kindness to others particularly as a witness for Christ. What I feel they are missing is this. In a private situation, it is always best to first build the relationship, then bring the good news. This is not private. It is an open forum and so many are blatantly speaking out against Christ with a vengence and goal of not entering themselves and blocking others from entering. When Jesus encountered such in the new testament, His heart was still full of grace, but his words were spoken openly, boldly and truthfully. In other words, Jesus stood up to them and He did not mince His Words. He was completely intolerant of their behavior.

I am not foolish enough to believe that anything I say will penetrate a hardened heart. My goal is to be obedient to God's Word, and counter act their evil with the truth for that person whose heart is still soft and fertile. God is running things, I'm just cooperating with Him.

Our nation and many people's lives are in a mess. The government cannot restore us, money cannot restore us, war cannot restore us, we cannot restore ourselves...our only hope is in Christ.

“If my own people will humbly pray and turn back to me and stop sinning, then I will answer them from heaven. I will forgive them and make their land fertile once again” (2Ch 7:14).

Yes Indeed, Emma, Willow,

Yes Indeed, Emma, Willow, thank you for your very thoughtful and spot on posts. A breath of fresh air indeed. Many that post here have a very deeply rooted bias against the Christian faith that sadly borders on obsession. The secular progressives have done a great job in demonizing Christianity, as now it appears it is the only religion that you can freely disparage, mock, denigrate and assault, with absolutely no consequenses. I wonder how many of those folks would dare to make the same vicious arguments against Islam? None, because any attacks against this peaceful religion of quiet, faithful, gentle people, has dire consequenses to their own personal well being, as demonstrated many times over the past several years. Yet, it is ok to bash Christians as haters, zealots, loonys, you name it. Wow, the double standard is truly epic. How about we all stop posting hate filled rhetoric about Christianity, ok? Just a thought, but a good one, as I don't think anyone here in this country has been murdered in the name of Christ recently. Lest we forget, let us all remember the body count of innocent Americans that have been killed in the name of Allah, and then as Jesus said, "Let him who is without sin, cast the first stone."

montega, You and some others

montega,
You and some others make a good argument regarding practicing common sense. In other words, it is wise to look things over before jumping into it. Always, good advice.

Even as a Christian, I held some similar thoughts when I heard of missionaries being murdered in foreign lands. I thought, what were they thinking?! Didn't they understand the risk?

I can give you all the scriptures that call us to do just what they were doing. But, I highly doubt that is what you want to hear. So, I will just share this with you. As I have grown in Christ, and seen first hand the things He has accomplished in my own life, in the lives of family members and friends, I stand amazed moment by moment. Through difficult circumstances, and many loses, I have learned that God is always up to something. While, I too, can't understand much of this... This I do know. The people who went had a passion for helping the least of them and were willing to leave the comforts and safety of their homes, and go to a foreign place where they knew they may be despised, so that others might have a better life, risking all they held dear, putting their faith in the one who loves them eternally.

I ask you, does this sound familiar to any of you? It was Christ, himself, and Christ in them.

While we might not ever be willing to take any risk for others, we are all able to be compassionate and loving towards others and the things we don't understand.

I am deeply saddened by the

I am deeply saddened by the remarks on here from those that continue to be very negative and have a defensive wall up all the time. For the love of our Lord is meant to fill your heart with joy and peace. I understand that there have been atrocities committed by "christians", but you must recognize that those that call themselves "christians" and then act in such a way that is not pleasing to the Lord, either 1- is not truly a christian, or 2 - they are sinning just like the rest of the world and need to seek forgiveness; we are all born sinners. When I read the posts on here, there are those that respond with love and those that are down right mean and hateful. My prayer is that those that have hard hearts will see that Jesus is Love. When people are saying encouraging things to you and telling you a loving message, can you respond to those Christians, with an open heart and not bring up what others have done in the past years ago?? We are not, nor plan to be "those people". Myself, Willow, Emma, ICL, and others, are never mean spirited in our comments. A little baffled and frustrated maybe, but never downright mean and hateful. It's hard to read a typed message and know the emotion behind it, especially when your defenses are up and you know you're going to respond the opposite no matter what we type next. I promise that our message of the hope and love found only in Jesus Christ is a loving one.....and nothing short of the absoulte truth. I pray everyone on here has a blessed day, for He is the one who woke us up this morning. He is the one that allowed us to make it to work safely, He is the one that gave us the perfect brain without any defects, so that we could get our degree in college or other education, He is the one that wraps His loving arms around us, and when we feel like we can't go on, He is the one that is holding us and quietly whispering.."it's ok". Just as He is capable of doing all these things, He is also capable of bringing us to a point in our lives where we MUST call on Him. He can and will save each soul that calls on Him, from despair. His precious name is...Jesus.
