Heaping helpings of hate

  • Follow Editorials

We applaud President Obama for calling for a new era of civility. It's badly needed.

We would simply point out that the president should start with his own liberal base -- whose hateful rhetoric has become utterly unhinged.

The bile dripping from their mouths has become too much to ignore, even if you try. Examples are proliferating with each turn of the calendar, but here are just a few:

- MSNBC's Keith Olbermann called Massachusetts Republican senatorial candidate Scott Brown "an irresponsible, homophobic, racist, reactionary, ex-nude model, teabagging supporter of violence against women and against politicians with whom he disagrees."

What a string of slime! ("Teabagging," by the way, is a slang term for an obscene act -- and all the liberals who use the term to describe patriotic anti-big-government protesters know that.)

- The same network's David Shuster said if Fox News host Glenn Beck's house caught on fire, the fire department should let it burn down.

- Liberal talk radio host Mike Malloy said this: "I have good news to report; Glenn Beck appears closer to suicide -- I'm hoping that he does it on camera; suicide is rampant in his family, and given his alcoholism and his tendencies towards self-destruction, I am only hoping that when Glenn Beck does put a gun to his head and pulls the trigger, that it's on television, because somebody will capture it on YouTube and it will be the most popular video for months."

Could that be any more out of line or vitriolic, personal or mean-spirited?

- Adds Bill Maher: "It is not that long before we're going to find Glenn Beck dressed as a woman or playing with his feces or something."

- About the pro-life Super Bowl ad to feature Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow, Kierra Johnson, executive director of Choice USA, says, "This un-American hate doesn't have a place in this all-American pastime."

Un-American hate? Because he is happy his mom gave birth to him? That's just irrational.

Watch the Super Bowl. View the ad. Then write to us at letters@augustachronicle.com. Tell us if you think it was hateful and un-American.

There's hate speech out there, all right.

And now you know where it's coming from.

Beck is a nut and people

Beck is a nut and people following him are being brained washed, the very minute he tells his listeners to go out and do HARM in the name of the republic, they will enmasse watch. This man spews Jim Jones CRAZINESS everyday.

JohnQPublic, since you asked like that, I will. He is in no way a hero or idol of mine and I haven't ever suggested he was. I believe his "dream/delusions" of "Helter Skelter" are unfortunately about to come to fruition. I will change it.

Good point, dashiel. The

Good point, dashiel. The Obama appearance at the Republican meeting was a bold action and the exchange was totally without script. This was the first time Obama made a good showing without a script and he did it by sticking to what he knows and not trying to trick anyone. I, too, enjoyed the exchange and felt the left wing press and the opinion people did a poor job of covering the open meeting. FOX news, however, did a fine job of showing the good points of both sides. Obama stuck to his socialist fix perspective and the few Repub speakers were conservatives. Polar opposites. It was the first time the hard left recognized the opposition. The "Boston Massacre" changed a lot in a short time.

Many of y'all call many on here who are not racists that word every single day. Does that really meet the level of filth the ACES used in their opinion?

However, it does serve it's

However, it does serve it's purpose. Look at the comments following the article. Lib/Con, Left/Right, Dems/Reps, Us/Them. Maybe we did but you...... The American voter is behaving exactly as the political parties want them to with the devisive rhetoric. Obviously, if I am criticising your party I am not looking at the wrongdoing of my own and can claim 'You are a hater' Get out of the partisan rut, not all good ideas come from one side of the aisle and dumb ones from the other. Stop believing the spin and look for the lies in ALL political claims. I would like to say look for the truth but it is a mythical creature in the cesspool we call a capital. The political process is not like a football game where if your teams doesn't win there is always next year, They are making promises you and your children will have to honor years from now, that your grandchildren and great-grandchildren will still be paying for. The "Wait till next election" mentality is bankrupting this country and next election you will end up with the same bird wearing a slightly different plumage.

Rush Limbaugh: "I tell

Rush Limbaugh: "I tell people don't kill all the liberals. Leave enough so we can have 2 on every campus - living fossils - so we will never forget what these people stood for."

Rep. Peter King: "I think people like Tim Russert and the others, who gave this guy such a free ride and all the media, they're the ones to be shot."

Right-wing commentator Melanie Morgan said she would "have no problem with" the editor of the New York Times "being sent to the gas chamber."

I could go on and on. Mike "Oh, Puleeeeze" Ryan claims here that most hate speech comes from the Left, but no one has ever done an objective study to establish whether more hate speech comes from the Left or the Right. The AC should listen to this: "Common sense tells you that there are very hateful people on the Right and the Left." Who said that?
Glenn Beck. Go figure!

I wonder why no conservative

I wonder why no conservative news paper or the top fox shows like O'Reilly, Beck, KKKanity and Fox and Friends didn't talk much about Obama interaction at the Bmore Republican retreat. I suppose had the Repubs got the best of him LOL it would be NEWS. They really looked dumb on that day, all I could do was laugh at them.
