Point missed

Of all the Rick McKee cartoons, this is one I just don't get. Someone fill in the blanks.

The point...

Ms. Maya Angelou a world renowned author, poet, and professor passed away yesterday. Her most notable work in which she came to worldwide attention was titled "I know why the caged bird sings." This book is the first in a series of autobiographical works sharing her life experiences, trials, and triumphs. The cartoon refers to that work and symbolizes that Ms. Angelou in death is free from the cage of life that she could only sing about. Thanks Rick for the beautiful tribute!
