Someone at the Historic Preservation Division has apparently gone off-mission.
My one complaint is that if they’re going to do this, their name should be changed to Historic Revision Division. To whom should I speak?
This is just part of the plan.
Michelle Obama stated on the campaign trail in San Juan, Puerto Rico on May 14, 2008 that she knows Barack Obama has to change our history.
Not normally a McKee fan, this one is spot on.
it really is a pretty offensive thing to have on display in public, especially as a kind of "official" declaration of something noteworthy. Thackeray wrote many other things that might have been used, but it was selected based on era of his visit.
I personally don't believe for a minute that it was the "single complaint" that led to the removal. That complaint led to the having the marker looked at once again, after God knows how many years of no one noticing it. That review would have determined the marker to be highly insulting and offensive to African Americans, which led, quite properly, to it's being removed.
If that visit is deemed important enough to commemorate, it can be done now in some way that doesn't flat out insult the black majority in Augusta. After all, political ascendency has changed quite a bit since Thackeray's visit, has it not?
I don't agree. It is what it was. It is just proof of perceptions. Maybe he wasn't shown the so called misery.
The rest is not directed at you.
Maybe there came to be not so much misery.
Slavery was going away in this country and would have been gone eventually without the Civil War.
