Upcoming Give a Meal campaign can triple the impact of your giving

Since 2009, our country has been experiencing one of the most challenging economic crises it has seen since the 1982 recession. With skyrocketing gas and grocery prices, many are struggling to balance their budgets.



FOR SOME, choosing to pay a home mortgage or utility bill will mean that there is little left to feed their families. For those already living in poverty, there will be more hardship as the government makes major decreases in Electronic Benefit Transfer cards, known as food stamps or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Over the course of a year, Burke, Columbia, Lincoln, Richmond and Washington counties will lose $10,556,654 that normally would be spent in local grocery stores. This means much less food for hungry families, and less money spent in our local communities.

This year, Bank of America again is partnering with Feeding America as the exclusive sponsor of its Give A Meal campaign beginning Nov. 18, which extends the impact of individual donations to fight hunger through a corporate match of up to $1.5 million. For every $1 donated, Bank of America will give $2 more, helping to provide meals to families in need.


IT’S AN OPPORTUNITY to spread the word and use all of our connections to fight hunger, and we’d like to ask for your help to drive local awareness of and participation in the campaign. Here in Augusta and in Aiken, S.C., Bank of America is focusing efforts on assisting Golden Harvest Food Bank to raise a goal of $100,000, of which 100 percent of the contributions will remain local. Triple the amount with Bank of America’s matching funds, and that is $300,000 for feeding the hungry here in our local community! If you give $5, this will become $15; $20 becomes $60; $100 becomes $300; $1,000 becomes $3,000. This is a great way to raise dollars that will remain local!

This support is just one component of Bank of America’s philanthropic focus on community development; work force development and education; and critical needs – three areas that are critical to advancing economic growth and improving the lives of families and individuals.


WE REALIZE THERE will be challenges ahead as we strive to provide food for those in need. We will not be taken by surprise, nor will we be fearful. God has been faithful to provide all of the necessary resources for Golden Harvest Food Bank over the past 32 years. We also have been extremely blessed by the outpouring of generosity from this community.
