Zia Rehman’s protestations to the contrary (“Carson wrong on Islam,” Sept. 22) Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson’s assertion that he doesn’t advocate putting a Muslim in charge of this country is spot-on!
Anyone elected as president, member of Congress, etc., must swear an oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution upon taking office. A Muslim cannot do this, as his or her allegiance is to Allah only – not to any ruler or country. This automatically would cause a conflict of interest. In this respect, Islam permits the practice of “taqiyya” – deception. This is done to non-Muslims and even to fellow Muslims if they are not diligent in their support of Allah.
As for Thomas Jefferson, he put a stop to the practice of the Barbary pirates exacting annual tribute from U.S. and European shipping in the Mediterranean Sea. Hence, the words “to the shores of Tripoli” in the U.S. Marines’ Hymn.
In conclusion, as Islam and Sharia law are both mutually incompatible with the U.S. Constitution, pray for divine guidance when voting for candidates. May God bless America!
