I applaud Hobby Lobby for its full-page “In God We Trust” ad in your newspaper July 4. I applaud the paper for having the courage and temerity to publish it, especially in an era of spiritual corruptness (political correctness). That ad is a true history lesson in and of itself – no revisionism needed!
The opinions of the Founders would be considered anachronistic and revolutionary compared with today’s values. While some may tout that we live in a pluralistic society and, therefore, these opinions are no longer valid, I would remind them that the biblical world-view of these Founders – the one that we as a nation have utterly abandoned – is the very foundation upon which this country was established.
John Adams rightfully stated, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” This is why our Constitution no longer functions as it did – we as a nation have ceased to be moral and religious, and those who dare try are immediately marginalized by the powers-that-be.
One can imagine what would happen if the view of history as reflected in that advertisement was in our public schools! Instruction time would increase. Discipline issues within the classroom would decrease. Character education no longer would be needed; it already would be ingrained in the students. (It is a sorry indictment against this culture that good character should even have to be taught!)
Finally, the consistent use of biblical principles in our schools would enhance what we desire most in children – students who can think prudently for themselves and possess the moral fiber needed to propagate the free republic our Founders envisioned.
Psalms 33:12: “Blessed is the nation whose God is The Lord.”
