I’ve seen several letters to the editor making the case that U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina shouldn’t be re-elected, based on his votes and questionable comments.
What hasn’t yet been said is that South Carolina simply needs to reclaim its senior senator. The more I watch Graham, the more convinced I am that he is an appendage to U.S. Sen. John McCain of Arizona.
Because of this odd relationship, Arizona effectively has three senators and South Carolina only has one. This is unfair. Our state deserves the loyalty of both of its senators. It isn’t healthy or right for our senior senator to ally with his friend from the Grand Canyon State. What about Graham’s constituents?
I wish Graham was joined figuratively at the hip with Tim Scott, our state’s other U.S. senator, instead of McCain. Maybe then South Carolina would get more respect on Capitol Hill.
