GOP senator out of step

I remain shocked at the number of conservative Republicans who believe that U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham is “one of them.”

This complacent, ostrich-like head-in-the-sand attitude isn’t disturbed by Graham’s support for President Obama’s radical Supreme Court appointees; cap-and-trade environmentalist legislation; National Security Agency spying; restrictions on the Second Amendment; and amnesty for illegal immigrants.

Yet one fact should make pro-Graham Republicans sit up and take notice: According to the nonpartisan Congressional Quarterly, in 2012 Graham voted 57 percent of the time with Obama on issues where the president made his position clear.

In 2011, Graham’s support for Obama was a staggering 63 percent.

To put this in perspective, of the 45 Republicans in the Senate, only five were more supportive of Obama. This may be expected from a Republican from the Northeast, but from South Carolina?

If Obama had a Senate full of Graham clones, the president wouldn’t need any Democrats!

Why any South Carolina Republican has any confidence in Graham remains a mystery. Is the Republican Party so intellectually bankrupt that such a man is preferable to his conservative challengers? It’s time for a long overdue wake-up call!
