Letter: Book exposes exploitation

My reading addiction has drawn me to read the beautifully written book The New Jim Crow, by Michelle Alexander.

This awesome book relates to a new and unfair incarceration agenda used to place people of color into prisons for extended periods for nonviolent crimes. The author explains in depth how long prison sentences continue to haunt these individuals upon being released from incarceration. These individuals are labeled as felons, making it almost impossible for them to acquire jobs, housing and federal education grants.

Also, Williams writes extensively about the nationwide judicial conspiracy that demeans and humiliates people of color who have been placed in America’s unfair penal system of justice. Is this true justice?

It was interesting to read that the overcrowding of jails and prisons has created a corporate privatization prison system for profit. And these companies are even listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Many Americans are becoming wealthy because of the rapid incarceration of people of color. Of course, this continued unfair incarceration agenda isn’t going to stop, because it has become a multibillion-dollar industry to exploit people of color.

Slavery seems to have again infiltrated America in a big-time way. Don’t accept my word about this issue. Read the book, and you will make the connection to this new style of American exploitation.

I’m elated that President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder have spoken out against this new Jim Crow agenda. Apparently they have read the book because they have cited references from it in speeches. They truly get it, and this is some kind of wonderful.
