Don't shrink our military

I was truly dismayed at the Feb. 27 Augusta Chronicle headline “Ex-VA executives won’t be punished,” which basically means that if you are employed by the Veterans Administration and are about to be dismissed you cannot be held accountable for incompetence. All you have to say is “I quit” or “I am going to resign. You can’t touch me.”

No wonder the VA is in such sad shape! The VA is run and controlled by a herd of dunderheads.

My real concern is that the secretary of defense wants to downsize our military to pre-World-War-II strength. That really worked well for Franklin D. Roosevelt on Dec. 7, 1941. I am assuming President Obama is working on a “day that will live in infamy” speech. What in blue blazes is wrong with these ignorant morons?

I am quite sure Russian President Vladimir Putin either is quivering in his KGB boots, or he is laughing his fool communist head off. Telling Putin to get out of Ukraine is like telling a child, “Don’t ever do that again!” Half of the Ukrainian people want to be controlled by the Russians and the other half want to belong to the European Union. However, the Communist Party wants both halves, and eventually will have all of Ukraine under their control!

Secretary of State John Kerry (who threw Vietnam medals over the White House wall) has chastised Putin also. Putin was so traumatized that he ordered his army to hold military maneuvers. And North Korea just fired three missiles capable of reaching Japan and South Korea.

I may be a so-called flat-earther, and just a dumb old retired infantry first sergeant, but now is not the time to reduce the capabilities of our military. Remember Pearl Harbor!

My final thoughts are that of Thomas Sowell: “It is hard to imagine a more stupid way of making decisions than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong.”
