Of opinion, news and figures

Marjorie McNeil’s letter to the editor (“Editorial was right-wing bile,” Dec. 4) was well-written and contained both facts and opinion. While one is entitled to an opinion without any research statistics to back it up, when one states facts there should be data to back up the facts.

In November, the Pew Research Center surveyed the information being broadcast on CNN, Fox News and MSNBC.

The results of the survey (plus or minus 5 percent) are as follows:

• CNN broadcasts consisted of 46 percent opinion and 54 percent news;

• Fox News broadcasts consisted of 55 percent opinion and 45 percent news;

• MSNBC broadcasts consisted of 85 percent opinion and 15 percent news.

In my opinion, it appears that Ms. McNeil has been getting her facts from MSNBC.
