There just doesn’t seem to be any respect anymore, does there? I think it begins at home. Some parents are neither teaching nor demanding respect from their children. Smart-mouthed, disrespectful children grow into insensitive, rude and disrespectful adults; they, in turn, don’t know how to teach their children to be respectful, and the cycle continues.
Sometimes people disrespect others because they feel insecure about themselves, or they have problems at work or at home. Many people do not respect themselves, and choose to take it out on other people.
Unfortunately, in this day and age people think they have the right to assert their opinions on anyone and everyone, despite the fact that they may be wrong. I think some of this can be attributed to people with low self-esteem who have to step on someone else’s feelings to boost their egos.
Some people enjoy disrespecting others because of a twisted sense of power. Everyone slips at times, but if you make a habit of showing and having open disrespect for other people, then you set yourself up to be disrespected, because ignorance is no excuse for disrespecting other people. Most importantly, disrespecting the same people over and over may place your life in grave danger.
There are so many ways to be disrespectful, and so many things that you can disrespect. I feel people should treat other people the way they want to be treated. Why? Because what you are trying to project on other people often will come back and fall right in your lap, because most people automatically assume they are better and have something to prove.
