Regarding the letter “We need a compromise” (Oct. 1):
I disagree with the writer’s premise that the Republicans are playing a “shut-down-the-government game of chicken.” Since when is standing for principles “chicken”? They are listening to voters who are constantly being lied to by our government. It is about time that we are being represented. The Senate could have “compromised” just as well – by listening to voters. They are equally responsible for the current shutdown, which seems to be the only way to get their attention.
Our country is crumbling. Thank God for principled legislators.
