In Syria, we have a nation of people tearing themselves apart while we in this country wring our hands in desperation crying, “Stop it! Stop it!”
We as a nation fail to see the nature of this conflict, unable or unwilling to see this war for what it is. Our first reaction is to back the opposition forces trying to free themselves from the evil rule of longtime tyrants the al-Assad family, which is aligned with Iran and Hamas.
Take another look, please. We have been fighting a war for the past 22 years against radical Sunni Muslims. After the CIA-funded creation of al-Qaida (to fight the Soviet Union in Afghanistan), we lost control of that army and we have been fighting it ever since. Iran and their allies are Shia Muslims. The Shia and Sunni sects have been fighting each other for more than a thousand years.
In the name of God, these two groups are fighting and killing the innocents – their own citizens.
If we launch missiles to punish Bashar al-Assad, we are supporting the very group of people who destroyed the World Trade Center in New York.
We have reason to mistrust both sides in this conflict, so in this case the enemy of my enemy is not my friend.
