What is this country coming to? The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission recently announced that it is pursuing enforcement action against Dollar General and a subsidiary of BMW because they had the racist audacity to ask contractors and employee applicants if they had been convicted of a felony. According to the EEOC, since blacks have a higher conviction rate than whites, this question discriminates against minorities.
I’m not making this up. Google it!
What are we coming to? Businesses who hire cashiers and others for trusted positions can’t ask applicants if they have a conviction for theft? BMW has been charged with discrimination because they asked contractors if they had convictions for murder; rape; assault and battery; child or spousal abuse; manufacture and distribution of drugs; or weapons violations.
I know I sound like Chicken Little, but what are we doing here? Have we lost our minds? What’s next – you can’t ask if someone has completed high school, because blacks have a lower completion rate than whites?
What happened to working hard, staying in school, playing by the rules and reaping the rewards America has to offer?
Goodbye, America. I don’t recognize you anymore. You had a good run, but now it’s time for you to become a second-rate country.
