Sometime in November 1945, our ship, the S.S. Mooring Knot docked in Sasebo, Japan. We were among the first American ships in Japan after it surrendered. Our captain had never been there before, but was able to bring the ship directly into port without sailing along the coast looking for the entrance. He navigated by the charts and the shooting of the sun and the stars.
At one time the Bible was the navigational system we used in America to direct our thinking and, with prayer, make our decisions! It was the foundation upon which our nation was built. All our basic laws came from the Ten Commandments! Take for example the one that says we are not to lie! Think what a difference that would make in our society if we all obeyed that law. How about it if our government did, too?
One cannot tour our nation’s capital and learn its history without being overwhelmed by the evidence that this nation was founded upon the word of God. Yet there are those on the left who despise this history and seek to change it. They have been largely successful, and as America has moved away from the Bible we have noted the results in our daily news.
The Bible is not a book filled with mistakes as the critics would have you believe. Yes, it has been translated many times – never to change its text, but to enlighten and give understanding to those of different languages and cultures so they may know God’s truth! After all, the Bible dates back 6,000 years of history written in the Hebrew and Greek languages. How many people read Greek?
What would America, the land of the once-free, be like if we could again moor the ship of state to the book it was once founded upon?
