Gun stance is full of holes

In reference to Victor Reilly’s letter “Solve gun rights problem” (April 17):

Mr. Reilly believes that the government should buy all the guns, like those used in the recent Connecticut and Colorado shooting tragedies, and give them to the police and the military. The sick individuals in both cases had handguns in addition to other weapons, and would have done the same thing whether they had assault rifles or not.

Criminals in the United States would be extremely grateful if guns were taken from all law-abiding citizens. According to a 2000 research paper, every mass shooting in the United States since 1950, with the exception of one, was in a gun-free zone. Gun-free zones are safe havens for criminals.

The writer asserts that militias have not existed for centuries. He is, for the first time, almost correct. The militia has not been called up for centuries, but the state of Georgia has contingency plans for forming militias. The entire state is divided into Georgia militia districts that are included in the legal description of all property in the state. One can check the legal notices in this newspaper to verify these facts.

Liberals cry and moan about guns, but they have no problem with killing tens of thousands of innocent babies, some of which are born alive, only to have their necks and spinal cords severed with a pair of scissors in a process some call “snipping.” Dr. Kermit Gosnell, a Philadelphia abortionist, is on trial for murdering live, healthy babies. Dr. Gosnell’s employees stated they witnessed him “snipping” more than 100 born-alive babies. He also had 47 fetuses in a freezer.

Where is Mr. Reilly’s outrage? Why is he not concerned about these precious innocent lives? Perhaps he is a good little Obama-Bot who knows our dear leader voted against a law outlawing “snipping” when he was an Illinois senator.

Keep in mind that Mr. Reilly likely is a flaming left-wing liberal who makes Richmond County Democratic Party Chairman Lowell Greenbaum look like Rush Limbaugh. In previous letters to the editor, Mr. Reilly has championed such causes as ending “income inequality.” He thinks everyone should make the same amount of money. In another letter, he said it was not fair to only give welfare recipients enough money to pay their bills. He believes they should have some pocket money, too.

Thank God the vast majority of citizens in the CSRA are reasonable people with common sense. Mr. Reilly is not one of them.
