I’m writing to thank the people of the CSRA, our neighbors and fellow Americans for their extraordinary goodness – something we are grateful for every day at the American Red Cross.
In this country, the Red Cross responds to nearly 70,000 disasters every year. It provides 24-hour support to members of the military, veterans and their families; collects and distributes about 40 percent of the nation’s blood supply; and trains more than 7 million people in first aid, water safety and other life-saving skills.
Since 1917, the Augusta Chapter of the American Red Cross has been a vital part of our community. We are proud to serve the following Georgia counties: Burke, Columbia, Glascock, Jefferson, Jenkins, Lincoln, McDuffie, Richmond, Taliaferro, Warren and Wilkes.
March is Red Cross Month, and the American Red Cross recognizes our Everyday Heroes who help their community by giving of themselves – the volunteers, blood donors, class participants and financial supporters who help us assist those in need.
We thank those whose generosity enables us to continue our work, and encourage everyone to become Everyday Heroes during Red Cross Month by helping their neighbors.
(The writer is board chairman of the American Red Cross’ Augusta Chapter.)
