Amendment about freedom

A message to the obviously misinformed person who wrote the letter to the editor “Amend Second Amendment” (Feb. 15): Ignorance can be changed through education; stupidity and bias can’t.

The Second Amendment, like the rest of the Bill of Rights, is protection for each American citizen against our own government. Our Constitution was finally ratified when these rights were included.

Automatic weapons? These rare weapons have been carefully controlled since 1934. Not one single legally registered machine gun has ever been used in the commission of a crime.

And the so-called “assault rifles” the liberals want to ban? The guns function mechanically no differently than a .22 rifle you can buy at Wal-Mart. They look like machine guns or automatic weapons, but are not.

So the writer doesn’t think we have enemies? Look at the White House. Our enemies can’t come here? What was 9-11?

Throughout the history of man, every time a dictator, despot or king has disarmed his own people, those same people have lost all rights and freedoms.

The Second Amendment is not about criminals or ducks. It is about freedom.
