Racism label unfounded

I can’t believe The Augusta Chronicle would give Edward Maner space to call everyone who has a different political bent from him and President Obama a racist (“Obama is an unfair victim of hatred,” Oct. 14).

Maner said: “If the majority of intelligent, astute, highly educated and fair-minded Americans vote for Mr. Obama for a second term, it would be a true blessing from God to know that these individuals took the high road.” This reminds me of a letter from Victor Reilly not long ago (“An informed vote is vital,” Sept. 21). Reilly was wishing we had a more informed electorate. Are you kidding me? Don’t these two people understand that if we had an intelligent, astute and informed electorate, no Democrat would get more than 30 percent of the vote in any election?

Maner refers to Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly and Donald Trump to being modern day Ku Klux Klansmen in disguise. I’ve been listening to these people since they’ve been known commodities, and have never heard a racist remark from any of them. Before he dropped out of the race, Herman Cain was the choice of that “racist” group called the Tea Party. One of Rush Limbaugh’s best friends is Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. Oh, that’s right – Cain and Thomas are just “Uncle Toms.” The current sweetheart of intelligent, astute and informed conservatives is U.S. Senate candidate Mia Love of Utah. That’s right – she is black. To the left, she is just an “Aunt Jemima.”

Ask any black man or woman in today’s society whether they think of themselves as second-class citizens. What an insult to them that Maner still perceives them as such. Obama won an electoral landslide in 2008. Is this huge racist voting bloc just now finding out that Obama is black? Conservatives’ and Republicans’ political biases are based solely on ideology.

Democrats can’t defend any of Obama’s leftist policies, and they are unable to compete in the arena of ideas, so all they are left with is: “You’re a racist.”
