The “apples and oranges” merger of Augusta State University and Georgia Health Sciences University is a fait accompli. Now the challenge is to find the right name.
The Georgia Board of Regents and GHSU President Ricardo Azziz are wedded to the term “Regents,” for “Georgia Regents University.” Most of the rest of us see the logic of including “Augusta” in the title for all the reasons so eloquently expressed in previous communications. It is time for a compromise.
I suggest the name “Augusta Regents University.” Something new, something old. Tradition mixed with opportunity. Moreover, people both near and far will know where it is located.
