Join us for revival

When I was a teenager, I had the opportunity to hear Leighton Ford, Billy Graham’s brother-in-law, when he was in Augusta leading a crusade. It was a life-changing experience that gave me a passion for Jesus, and now has come full circle as we prepare for the Just Give Me Jesus Revival, led by Anne Graham Lotz, Billy Graham’s daughter. The revival is this Friday 7 - 9 p.m. and Saturday 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m at James Brown Arena. It’s free; walk-ins welcome.

Why would I write a letter to the editor about a revival? A group of 1,500 representatives from more than 250 churches and more than 40 denominations have been working and praying for this revival, and we are confident that God is going to transform lives that will lead to the transformation of the local church and, ultimately, to the transformation and revitalization of the Central Savannah River Area and beyond.

Nearly three years ago after attending a Just Give Me Jesus Revival in Greenville, S.C., two friends and I began praying for a revival in Augusta, North Augusta and Aiken. We have watched God assemble a revival team representing a diverse group of churches and denominations, and crossing socioeconomic, geographic and racial lines. In our request to Mrs. Lotz to consider Augusta as a site for her Just Give Me Jesus Revival, we presented letters of invitation from 140 area ministers, church leaders, political leaders, business leaders and civic leaders.

We have watched unity in the midst of diversity, and we think God can and will bless our unity as believers in Jesus Christ and give us a fresh encounter with Him. Through this fresh encounter, our love will grow for God and our neighbors, which will produce positive outcomes in our families, churches and community.

Our revival team has been fervently praying and seeking to apply the truths found in II Chronicles 7:14: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

Mrs. Lotz recently said, “Augusta has heaven’s attention.” We agree with her, and cry out to God to bring revival to our area. Please join us Sept. 21-22 at James Brown Arena.
