It is difficult to remain aloof during the present controversy regarding the name chosen for the merged universities in Augusta.
I am not opposed to change, but let’s face it – “Georgia Regents University” is a tacky name. Why not avoid the expense of the lawsuit being brought by a Virginia university over a trademark infringement? Too much already has been spent (i.e., the nationwide and statewide study that was completely ignored).
Rather than a tacky name, why not a robust name? I suggest that the Board of Regents revisit their choice, and name the merged universities Georgia University – Augusta.
