I read The Augusta Chronicle’s June 12 outrage of the day, saying that government does not create jobs (“A statement of beliefs”).
Maybe The Chronicle’s management thinks it’s a good idea to lay off government employees. If so, it should start a campaign to demand Republicans shut down Fort Gordon, Savannah River Site and stop all funds to Augusta State University. I am sure that the local Tea Party folks and government-hating conservatives gladly will make the sacrifice, join the cause and do their part to get our nation’s financial house in order. Augusta and the surrounding area will then really prosper without all that annoying federal money coming into the local economy. Be careful what you ask for – you just might get it.
I am sure that Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels also would demand that those federal jobs not be moved to his state.
