The letter “Ann Romney had it easy” by Michael Ledo in the May 30 edition of The Augusta Chronicle was a masterpiece of written bile, scratched out by a hate-filled hand, with seemingly no reason except to demean a woman he can’t possibly know!
If it was supposed to have some political value, some intelligent thoughts about Republicans vs. Democrats or about the problems of American education and family values, it failed miserably! Rather, it was a misogynistic, uninformed diatribe, “full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”
To attack a woman merely because she is wealthy defies logic. It shows a lack of character, and illuminates a whiny nature bigger than poor old Eeyore in Winnie the Pooh!
Mr. Ledo suggests we should all have it so tough. “Tough” is actually what Ann Romney has experienced, as she has battled multiple sclerosis and breast cancer along with happily raising five sons. It wasn’t money that gave Ann Romney her spirit to fight – it was her courage.
Tempers flare and spiteful things are said during political campaigns, but this letter hit a new high in low. If the purpose was to let the world know you are a Democrat, the words of Mark Twain come to mind: “All you need is ignorance and confidence and the success is sure.”
I would hope that Democrats, Republicans and independents alike would be appalled at the nature of Mr. Ledo’s words.
