The merger between Augusta State University and the former Medical College of Georgia, now Georgia Health Sciences University, has evoked a controversy between the school and Augusta commissioners. It seems that commissioners want our city’s name retained in the new title, but school officials maintain that the university should reflect the state’s name.
My suggestion: Name the school the Medical Health and Sciences University at Augusta, Georgia! In future actions, should the school grow and spread to other Georgia municipalities, they simply name those other locales the Medical Health and Sciences University at Athens, or the Medical Health and Sciences University at Atlanta, etc.
C’mon, folks – just git ’er done!
