Why close public meetings?

In reference to Susan McCord’s March 2 article “Attorney disputes Walmart land deal”: Why would the Augusta Commission ever need a closed (secret) meeting?

Since these people serve the people, nothing they do should ever be hidden from the people they were elected to represent/serve. I am sure there are some personnel matters that might require closed discussion. However, once resolved, a full disclosure should be made.
