I take great pride in being a born-and-bred Augustan. It also makes me proud when quality events showcase our beautiful city to visitors – the Masters Tournament, the Augusta Futurity, Half Ironman, Augusta State University’s golf tournament, et al.).
Another event is the Augusta Half Marathon. The 1,100 runners who ran the race Sunday were treated to one of Augusta’s best events, great weather and hospitality. The Augusta Sports Council’s management and execution was beyond superlative. The course took the runners through some of Augusta’s treasures: downtown, the Medical District, “The Hill,” skirting west Augusta by the Augusta National Golf Club, around Lake Olmstead, bisecting Harrisburg, by the new and impressive Kroc Center, over the Augusta Canal and finishing at the renovated Enterprise Mill.
As I visited with out-of-town racers, they praised the race organization, the variety and beauty of the course and, of course, the weather!
I hope Augustans will take a visitor’s perspective to experience what a wonderful city we have and the potential it holds because of climate, lifestyle, cost of living, economic resources, opportunity and good people!
