I found it unusual that in The Chronicle on Feb. 15, Cal Thomas quoted Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry in his column (“Losing liberty: How can government’s power grab be stopped?”). Where were columnists like Thomas when African-Americans wanted the same liberties as Jefferson and Henry?
Or, since Thomas’ column focused more on the influence of government and religion regarding Obamacare – particularly birth control – I ask again: Where were the media when many states, from the 1940s through the ’70s, instituted forced sterilizations on many women? Now that’s what I call “extreme government health care.”
Since women did not have the right to vote until 1920, perhaps only women should have the “liberty” to decide what form of birth control they wish to use. I’m sure their decision will not be as extreme as the earlier years of government and religion.
