President Obama is now quoting Jesus as endorsing his plans of income redistribution: “To whom much is given much is required” (Luke 12:48). Obama’s translation: Through the power of the federal government, confiscate from the high-income earners and give it to the non-earners in this country.
The level of hypocrisy is beyond description. Obama is extraordinarily generous with other people’s money. In the year he profited more than $1 million dollars from his book sales, his personal charitable giving was $10,000 – less than 1 percent, not counting his income as a senator and speaking fees, etc. In the same year, Vice President Joe Biden gave a whopping $320,000-plus to charity. Maybe they should consider Jesus’ words: If your eye be good (a Hebrew idiom for generosity), your life will be full of light; but if your eye be evil (a Hebrew idiom for stinginess), then your life will be full of darkness. In other words, if you are generous, you are light; if you are stingy, you are darkness.
Little wonder politicians to give away taxpayers’ money. If everyone was like them, there would be no charity. Jesus never intended for giving to be compulsory, but purely out of the goodness of the heart.
Obama’s unabashed vote-buying through class warfare is pathetically transparent. We get it – but as Obama attempts to force Catholic hospitals and other religious institutions to pay for sterilization and abortifacient drugs, he should please leave Jesus out of it.
