Is war the answer again?

It has been said that history repeats itself. This statement is true. We Americans need to remember this.

When the stock market crashed in 1929, the country was plunged into the Great Depression – the worst financial crisis of all time. To top it off, we lost a great deal of our agriculture to the “Dust Bowl” that struck the Midwest.

What saved us was World War II. This is because we were a nation that could manufacture things in huge quantities. We didn’t do it during the Depression because no one could afford to buy anything. Building bombs, planes, tanks, guns, ships, etc., was right up our alley. All of a sudden, it came to pass – the “sleeping giant” that Adm. Isoroku Yamamoto said Japan would awaken.

Fast-forward to Vietnam. Politicians said that if we didn’t stop communism in Southeast Asia, it will be at our doorstep. The Soviet Union funded the North Vietnamese, and in turn we lost more than 50,000 lives there. We lost that war, but communism didn’t end up at our doorstep.

Fast-forward to 2003. President George W. Bush thought Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. People thought Saddam was being arrogant the way he disregarded the United Nations. In reality, even though he didn’t possess weapons of mass destruction, he wanted the world to think he did because of Iran. As long as Iran thought he had them, they would think twice about invading him.

Now there’s China. They flood the market with cheap goods that Americans buy while U.S. companies move offshore where they can find cheap labor so they can make a bigger profit.

We may be in a recession now, but it’s only a matter of time until it’s upgraded to a depression. America cannot survive when you have a country flooding the market with substandard goods and American businessmen taking away the jobs that made this country great.

I don’t want to see it, but it looks like the only hope for this country is to go to war with the countries that are destroying our economy. Heaven help us.
