A different green for Gore

Current TV founders cash in with oil barons

They sold out – in more ways than one, and just in time to lower their tax burden.

Liberal network “Current TV” founders Al Gore and Joel Hyatt recently announced the sale of the cable brand to Qatar-based Al Jazeera.

Al Jazeera apparently will shut down the Current TV channel and launch Al Jazeera America in its place.

Critics noted the potential hypocrisy of Al Gore – Mr. Green Energy – selling out to a company that represents folks with a lot of interest in oil.

In addition, the sale was negotiated just before the new year’s round of tax increases on wealthy Americans – so, conveniently enough, less money would go to the government.

And you thought paying more in taxes was the patriotic thing to do! Did Gore and Co. get out of “paying their fair share”?

Regardless, the liberal lions of Current TV were sold out – and, indeed, Democratic luminaries of Current TV such as former Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm and former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer jumped ship immediately after the sale to Al Jazeera.

You have to wonder what the commentators on Current TV would’ve said about, oh, Rupert Murdoch selling Fox News to Al Jazeera – and timing it expressly to send less money to the U.S. government.

But Al Gore doing it – and selling out to the land of oil barons?

That’s just rich.
