Ignoring the lawlessness

The “mainstream” media wanted to convince you that the Tea Party movement wasn’t real – after hoping at first that it would go away. When that didn’t work, they tried calling it selfish. They tried mocking it, in profane terms on national television. They tried building a case that it was racist.

The most serious allegation against the Tea Party, that one supporter may have spit at a congressman, was never proved – despite a $100,000 reward being offered.

In contrast:

The “mainstream” media immediately seized on the Occupy Wall Street protests as being admirable and, according to NBC’s Brian Williams, the movement of our era.

Perhaps not surprisingly, the continued arrests and violence and racism in evidence among Occupiers have been underreported by the major news outlets. Maybe the news organizations have too much at stake in their support of the protests, and they’re embarrassed by what’s going on.

What’s going on? Mass arrests including the need to tear gas a mob in Oakland, Calif., defiling of public and private property, sex in public, allegations of rape and rampant anti-Semitism – all of which, again, the “mainstream” media are downplaying as much as possible. A Dallas television station reports, for instance, that “Dallas Police continue to investigate whether a teenage runaway was sexually assaulted by an adult male at the Occupy Dallas encampment behind City Hall.” The teen was said to be 14. Hear about that?

In Missoula, Mont., a local news station reported that “an 11-year-old boy turned up drunk on the courthouse lawn, from the Occupy Missoula encampment early Thursday morning.” Hear about that?

You would’ve if it had been a Tea Party event!

A CBSNews.com article noted that in Oakland, “There were reports of a sex assault and a severe beating and fire and paramedics were denied access to the camp, according to city officials, who said they had also received numerous complaints of intimidating and threatening behavior.” Yet, the reports and violence in Oakland received only scant attention on morning news shows.

Some 700 were arrested in New York, and 52 in Atlanta. Even in Augusta, graffiti artists have been spray painting Occupy symbols downtown.

The thinking isn’t much better than the behavior, either. One protester wanting his college tuition paid for could only defend the demand this way: Because other people have the money to do it, and “Just because that’s what I want.”

Evidence of virulent anti-Semitism in the movement also is largely being ignored by the major media. One protester blamed Jews for seemingly everything, noting their “control” of Wall Street, the Federal Reserve, the financial system and the media. “They also lead the pack when it comes to white-collar crime,” he said. “Whenever there’s a billion-dollar fraud, there’s a Jew involved.”

There are other examples – and yet a search of major news broadcasts on CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN and MSNBC by the Media Research Center revealed no mention of the anti-Semitism in the Occupy movement.

You think the Tea Party would’ve gotten such kid gloves?

At another liberal event recently, a camera caught protesters calling for conservative black Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas to be sent back to the fields, tortured and lynched. Bet you didn’t hear about that either.

When did the major news media decide to take sides like this and misrepresent the truth to fit their own belief systems?

And what will that mean for the nation?
