The "mainstream" media have fallen in love -- well, as much as they can be said to love any Republican -- with new GOP presidential candidate Jon Huntsman.
They love him because 1) he's worked for President Obama and 2) he's promised to run a civil campaign -- translation: He'll go easier on Mr. Obama than the others will.
What's not to love?
Of course, by "civil" Republicans, what the media really mean is "docile." Don't much care for them uppity conservatives!
It's rather humorous, though, that the media crouch like hidden tigers waiting for the first "uncivil" word, in their view, from a Republican or conservative -- but if you're liberal, anything goes.
Consider just a couple of examples.
Comedian/liberal activist Jon Stewart of the Comedy Central network recently mocked conservative Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain using what some are calling an "Amos and Andy" voice -- a stereotype we thought had been relegated to America's racist past.
Ah, but if you're a liberal, even a white liberal, you can attack a black man with racist stereotypes -- as long as he's conservative.
The conservative black, you see, is the New Negro.
It's despicable. But in liberal media, it's perfectly acceptable.
It's interesting that there's been no outcry whatsoever in the "mainstream" media about Stewart's blatantly racist insult -- but there was hell to pay for conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh some time ago when he used a stereotypical dialect to lampoon Chinese President Hu Jintao.
So a foreign leader deserves more respect than a black American presidential candidate?
But of course, if that candidate is a conservative!
Meanwhile, liberals -- who plaintively called for civility from conservatives after the Tucson shootings, while desperately trying (and failing) to pin the crime on a conservative -- have continued to be most uncivil themselves.
But it's important that they poison the public when it comes to any conservatives, not just blacks. The media also need to target 1) conservative women and 2) religious conservatives.
How convenient that U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann is a two-fer! Rolling Stone magazine calls the GOP presidential candidate "bat---- crazy" and a "political psychopath" with a "gigantic set of burnished titanium Terminator-(male genitalia) swinging under her skirt."
Remember all that the next time a liberal calls for civility.
