James Edward Gay (BLYTHE, Ga.)

BLYTHE, Ga. - James Edward Gay, Sr., 79, loving husband of the late Hazel Bartlett Gay, entered into rest Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at his residence. Funeral services with full military honors will be held at Blythe Baptist Church on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 2:00PM with Rev. Jody Boulineau officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. James was a member of Keysville UMC and attended Hephzibah Church of God and Blythe Baptist Church. He was also the Worshipful Master Mason in the Waynesboro Lodge 274. James loved his country and was a proud veteran. He served two tours in the Korean War and two tours in Vietnam, retiring after 20 years of active duty service and 10 years in the reserves. He enjoyed deer hunting and "tinkering" on small electronics. He would also spend time "searching for the end of the internet highway". James' greatest blessing was his large family whom he loved very much. His goodbyes were always "I love you best!" He was also preceded in death by his parents, Ethel Newman Gay and Lamar Isaac Gay; his granddaughter, Heather L. Gay; four sisters; and two brothers. Survivors include his children, Lavannda G. Gormley (Patrick), James E. Gay, Jr. (Linda), Vernon D. Gay, Sr., Teresa G. Wilson and Benjamin A. Gay; a brother, Ricky Gay; three sisters, Betty G. Clayton ( J.W.), Diane G. Fitzgerald (Butch) and Ollie G. Barrow (John); 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and many friends. Honorary pallbearer will be Greg Coursey. The family will receive friends at James Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00PM this evening, Friday, November 4, 2011.
