WRENS, Ga. - John P. Norton, 89, loving husband of the late Mary Ethel Williford Norton, entered into rest Friday morning, October 7, 2011, at University Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, October 10, 2011 in the James Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J. Scott McKinney officiating. Interment will follow in Wrens Memorial Cemetery. Born to the late Dessie Powell Norton and the late John Jackson Norton, John was a life-long resident of Jefferson County and proudly served his country during the Korean War as a SGT in the Air Force. He was a member of Wrens Baptist Church and the Water Jacobson Sunday School Class. After 20+ years of service, J.P. retired from J.M. Huber. He was a quiet, unassuming man who liked to work in his garden. John loved his God and his family. Those left behind include his son, Jeff Norton (Debbie); two grandsons, Corey Norton and Matthew Norton; a special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Virginia and Donald Gay; and many nieces, nephews and church family. Pallbearers will be Bucky Norton, Robbie Prescott, Larry Rhodes, Jack Roberson, Don Williford and Keith Williford. Honorary pallbearers will be the Wrens Baptist Walter Jacobson Sunday School Class. Memorial contributions may be made to Wrens Baptist Building Fund, PO Box 217, Wrens GA 30833.
