Catherine Jenkins Solomon (BARNWELL, S.C.)

BARNWELL, S.C. - "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day": Catherine Solomon was born on September 21, 1913 in Garnett, South Carolina. She was a daughter of the late Claudia Jenkins and the late Joe Butler. On September 18, 2011, god called one of his precious flowers from his garden to join him in the kingdom. At an early age she joined the Thankful Baptist Church in Garnett, SC and later joined the Union Baptist Church and was a faithful member for over seventy-five (75) years. In 1928, she married the late Willie Wolomon and to this union three (3) children were born. She was preceded in death by daughter, Carrie Bell Flax, brother, Albert Jenkins, son-in-law, Reverend Robert L. Kelly, grandson, John Robert Kelly, and granddaughter, Denise Flax. She leaves to cherish her many joyous memories: one (1) daughter - Bernice Kelly, Aiken, SC and one (1) son - Benjamin Solomon (Ruth), Camilla, Ga.; a grandson - Roger Scott (Berta), of whom was reared in the home as a son; one (1) sister, Annie Singleton (Winnie Joe), Petersburg, Va.; one (1) brother - James Smoaks, New York City, NY; one (1) daughter-in-law - LouiSianna Solomon, Buffalo, NY; sixteen (16) grandchildren, twenty-nine (29) great grandchildren, nineteen (19) great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous other daughters and sons.
