Lawrence O. Bennett (LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga.)

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Mr. Lawrence O. Bennett passed away on September 1, 2011 Born in Augusta, Ga., Sept. 9, 1932, Mr. Bennett grew up in North Augusta, SC where he graduated from NA High. He later moved with his family to Miami, Fla. Where he attended the University of Miami and received his BS degree in Botany and Zoology. Mr. Bennett served his country in the US Army Medical Corp during the Korean War stationed in Germany. His working career spanned 40 years with the General Service Administration where he retired as a Director. He served his Lord in several ways including as Deacon at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Ga./ and later as a Member at Smyrna Presbyterian Church in Conyers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Simeon (Dick) and Margaret Whitlaw Bennett. Mr. Bennett is survived by his loving wife Shelia of 52 years. Also surviving are daughters, Lauren Turner and son-in-law Denny Turner of Jefferson, Christina Mitchell and son-in-law Jeff Mitchell of Conyers, Grandsons Nathaniel Hutchison, Hayden Hutchison, Chris Mitchell, Bennett Mitchell, and Aaron Mitchell. Also surviving are brother Elwell (Chuck) Bennett and sister-in-law Zella, sister, Ann Chafin and brother-in-law Bill and their daughter Angela Windley of Washington, Ga. as well as nieces Beverly Warren and Deborah Dancer, and a nephew Gary E. Bennett, all of who reside in North Carolina. In compliance with Mr. Bennett's last wish, earthly remains were sent to the Medical College of GA for teaching and research.
