Anthony Canestra (AUGUSTA, Ga.)

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Monday, August 15, 2011, Mr. Anthony Canestra, 91, husband of the late Betty Cottingham Canestra. Mr. Canestra was a native of New York City, NY and resided in Evans, Ga. He was a member of Mt. Elon Baptist Church in Smith Creek, FL. Mr. Canestra worked for 31 years in law enforcement; 20 of those in New York, NY and 11 years in Statesboro, GA. Mr. Canestra was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in WWII and was a Mason. Family members include sons: Robert Anthony Canestra, the late Bruce Francis Canestra; step-daughters: Lisa Lawrence and husband Mallory of Augusta, Claudia Canestra, Denise Hackett and husband Ben; stepsons: Randy Hoyt, the late Duane Hesner; grandchildren: Robert Canestra, Jr., Kellyann Critelli, Bruce Canestra, Christopher Hackett, Ethan Paulson, Palmer Lawrence, Mallory Lawrence, Jr., Samuel Hoyt, Kiersten Hoyt; and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 20, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel at Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Dan Brown and Rev. Greg Hatfield officiating.
