EVANS, Ga. - Ret Lt. Col. Charles Robert Hiatt, Sr., 91, of Evans, entered into rest on August 6, 2011 at his residence surrounded by his family. Born in Hancock County, IN, he was the son of the late Paul E. and Sarah E. McConnaughy Hiatt. Charles lived in various cities before moving to Evans in 1971. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after twenty nine years of service in the Army. He served in WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War and at the Pentagon. He liked to golf and work with wood. Charles was an avid Braves fan, even though they were a great disappointment to him. He was a very talented person He is survived by his wife Soo Ouk Lee Hiatt, children, Charles R. Hiatt, Jr., Westerville, OH; Marise (Robert, Jr.) Kuhlke, Augusta; John E. (Cynthia) Hiatt , Atlanta; James A. Hiatt, Augusta; Patricia a. Hiatt, Evans; John S. (Faith) Hiatt, Willington, FL, Elizabeth M. (Stephen) Stewart, Augusta, brothers, Branson E. (Everett) Hiatt, James M. (Milton) Hiatt, Betty Louise Anderson, all of South Bend, IN, twenty six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, other family members, Carol S. Bussey, Hae Soon Tebow. Funeral services will be private. Elliott Sons Funeral Home is assisting the family.
