Julius Watson Tanner (THOMSON, Ga.)

THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. Julius Watson Tanner, Sr., 90, of Whiteoak Rd. died July 30, 2011. Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m., August 04, 2011 at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Rev. Tim Ferrell will officiate. Mr. Tanner was born in Butts County, Georgia but lived most of his life in Augusta, Georgia before moving to Thomson seven years ago. He was a retired Staff Sergeant from the U.S. Army with 21 years of service. He served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Tanner was also retired from Gracewood Hospital as the steam plant operator. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Survivors include his children: sons, Julius "Butch" Tanner, Jr. and wife, Sherry of Augusta, Michael Tanner and wife, Debra of Jacksonville, Bruce Tanner and wife, Jan of Thomson; daughters, Toni Kilmer and husband, Corey of Cumming, Melanie Radford and husband, Mike of Augusta; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Mr. Tanner was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Edna Lassiter Tanner, a son, LCPL William L. "Billy" Tanner and a granddaughter, Sarah Grace Junkins.
