Mary Claire Rox Kane (PHOENIX, Ariz.)

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Mary Claire Rox Kane died in Phoenix, AZ, July 6, 2011. She was born in Augusta, GA March 7, 1919, the daughter of Ethel Claire Fitzgerald and John Aloysius Rox. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Jerry Kane, New York, NY and by three brothers, John A. Rox, Jr. (Ida Hall) and William T. Rox, both of Augusta, GA; and Frank F. Rox (April) of Tiburon, CA; and her sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Richard Wheeler, of Jacksonville, FL. Mrs. Kane is survived by her daughter Frances Jerry Kane, of Phoenix; and her sons, Richard F. Kane (Mary Frances) of Phoenix, and Joseph T. Kane of New York, NY. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Christopher and James Jones; two great-grandchildren, Veronica Claire and Emily Rose Jones, two sisters-in-law, Ida Hall Atkinson of Evans, GA, and April Rox of Tiburon, CA, and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Kane graduated from Mount St. Joseph's Academy and Nursing School in Augusta. She served in World War II in the Pacific as a Lt. Commander Nurse. After the war, she was discharged in New York, NY, where she married Jerry Kane, raised her family, and worked in nursing for 40 years. In 1997, she moved to Phoenix and lived with her daughter until her death. She had a sharp wit and a lively, Irish personality. She was well loved and will be greatly missed.
